McFADDEN, Henry B. Jr., 74, of Roanoke, passed away Thursday, September 24, 2009. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry B. McFadden and Blanche Wells McFadden of Covington. Henry was a man of varied interests and hobbies which occupied and entertained him throughout his life. He served his country proudly in the U.S. Navy and was a small business owner in the Roanoke area for many years. Despite not having completed a college degree, he received his certification as a professional engineer in 1988, an accomplishment he was very proud of. Surviving are his wife, Stephanna McFadden; children, Robert McFadden of Richmond, Gordon Martin and wife, Linda, of Salem, Angela Hayth and husband, Lyn, of Botetourt, Judy Whitson of Roanoke, Steve Craghead of Waynesboro, Alan Craghead and wife, Rebecca, of Florida; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sisters, Ilene Penland and husband, Frank, of Richmond, Regena Young and husband, Ken, of Midlothian; a host of other relatives; and his special companion, Jake. The family would like to thank the doctors and staff at the University of Virginia Medical Center's cancer unit for all their support and care during his illness. The family requests that any memorials be made in Henry's name to the A.S.P.C.A. or the American Cancer Society. Services will be private. Arrangements handled by Simpson Funeral Home and Crematory, 540-366-0707.

To the family, we send sincere sympathy to you in your loss. H.B. (as we called him) was especially great High School buddies with myself (Bob) and several others. May you find the peace that only God can give. So sad that cancer was the cause of lingering difficulty for him .
