Mr. Deitrick and Mr. Taylor were instrumental, with calls and letters, in getting me a position with VEPCO in 1968. There had been a hiring freeze since 1965 and I had been told that I could not be considered. Because of their efforts, I began a career that lasted 38 1/2 years, retiring in 2005.
I wanted you to know that I have tried to pass on the impression of helping and caring about others, that he made on me. God bless, Brian

We will miss Grandaddy very much. He always had a new joke for us everytime we talked to him. Just thinking about his laugh makes me smile.
I am glad that we were able to visit with him one last time and that he got to meet his new great-grandson before he left this earth.

I met Mr. Deitrick at Kristin and George's wedding and really enjoyed talking with him. What a sweet and fun man he was. I know that George really loved his Grandaddy and will miss him greatly.

I met Mr. Deitrick taking care of him at his eye doctors office. He was such a wonderful man and we enjoyed his smiling face everytime he walked into the office. I remember we threw a birthday party for him with a "singing quartet" that made him smile from ear to ear. He loved life and loved his family and friends dearly.. He will truly be missed.. The family is in my thoughts and prayers!

I worked with Jake many many years ago. I was very young at the time. He would always bring me fresh vegetables out of his garden. He also brought me back presents when he went on vacation. After his retirment, he would always call me about every six months to see how I was doing. I left Vepco upon the birth of my first child but Jake continued to call to check on me and my family. He would always inquire about my children. He would always have a funny joke to share and my fondest memory of him was his laugh. I am sure he will be dealy missed by his family and friends.

Hi, I'm James Stuart Deitrick, grandson of Virgil Stuart Deitrick. I am 68 years old and live in the west end of Richmond at 4102 Roundtree Road, zip 23294, telephone 804-270-5228. I have been out to the grave yard on Broad Street and recorded names from the tombstone several years ago. Although I have not seen Jacob for many years, I have fond memories of him and Claude. My condolences to all his family members.

Jake was a dear friend to my dad, Buster White, and he will miss his friendship greatly. They enjoyed a lot of things together but the one thing that sticks out the most to me was the fun they had gardening and trading vegetables. My mom always enjoyed it when Jake would come and have dinner with them. They talked every day on the phone about who knows what, but they enjoyed it. Jake, you had a long, happy life, may you rest in Peace and may God bless your family during this difficult time.
