WEST, Anne Cowardin, 87, of Camden, S.C. died Tuesday, September 29, 2009. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, October 2, 2009. The service will be at 12 Noon at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, with rite of committal in Quaker Cemetery. Reverend Francis Travis will officiate. A rosary will be recited at Mrs. West's home on Thursday evening, October 1, 2009. Memorials may be made in Mrs. West's memory to the Walter M. Crowe Animal Shelter, 460 S. Fair Street, Camden, S.C. 29020 or to a charity of one's choice. Mrs. West, widow of Dr. George Franklin West, was born in Richmond, Va. She was the daughter of the late Henry Moale Cowardin and Dorothy Bentley Cowardin. She was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. H. Clay (Pud) Carruth of Camden; sons, Mr. and Mrs. George F. West Jr. (Charlotte) of Alexandria, Va., Mr. Carl A. West II of Camden and Dr. and Mrs. Henry C. West (Sally) of Mt. Pleasant. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren, one great-grandchild; and her sister, Dorothy C. Gibson of Richmond, Va. Mrs. West was predeceased by her daughter, Constance West Holt. The family would like to extend special thanks to Jenny Starnes, Katie Pharr and Helen "Nurse Extraordinaire" Bundrick.
