Sitting at my shop working this morning, yup still working. Thinking where you would be, what our lives would be like. Pain never goes away, never lessons, you just learn to live with it. I miss you and wonder what craziness would be going on today, your birthday. Feel so much but I don't know the words to convey the emotions. I just remember Tyler telling me all those years ago that my heart hurts because you are making room in it to stay with me. I sure hope so, would explain a lot. Hope all you Miles and Reardon's aren't causing too much trouble where you are. I'm sure my Gido will keep you all straight, that's why my dad called him "the Boss". Years are getting shorter for me, see you soon.

14 years later from the day, my face looks older, my beard is grayer, my body isnt as nimble, but the memory remains. The sounds from that day will never leave me.

But the story of you, Sgt Miles, will be told to my kids, grandkids and maybe even great grandkids.

I will never feel the pain that your family feels, but the pain is there. You were a hell of a Marine. You are still missed.

Honored beyond words by the family of Sgt Sean H. Miles with his Memorial Scholarship at Clover Hill High School today. My daughter was humbled to be so generously awarded in his memory. She takes his sacrifice for our country and his platoon very seriously. Thank you for never letting us forget the incredible man who inspired the named road on our campus. May God continue to bless his family and the memory of such an incredible son, husband, father and Marine who gave everything for this nation.

I remember how hard we worked and how awesome it was to finally have that blood stripe on our uniform. It has never meant so much to me as it does now. I miss you brother.

I was talking to my nine year old son about us and the Corps. When I told him your story he asked me what I did. I told him I wasn't there with you. He said dad could you have saved him? I said I am not sure, but he died saving another marine. He replied, dad he is a hero. You will never be forgotten my friend. Never.

To my fellow marine, my football teammate, and most importantly my friend. Today marks the 235th Birthday of our United States Marine Corps. It is also the day before Veterans Day. As your friend I cannot celebrate either one of those without thinking of you. You my friend are the tip of the spear. You are the true example of Honor, Courage, and Commitment. I am so proud to have known you as a man and as a Marine. I am proud to have worn the same eagle, globe and anchor. Proud to have earned the same blood stripe. Proud to have endured the same stress and trials to live for a cause much larger than ourselves. Sean, I want you to know that I am forever grateful for your sacrifice. I know that you were a good Marine and that you trained others to be the same. I want you to know that your sacrifice is recorded in history and changed lives. I still struggle with the fact that I was not there to help you. I do not know if I will ever get over that, but I believe that God had you in place to do the work that needed to be done. That day you were not just a Marine but a guardian angel to a fellow Marine. Sean I love you man. I honor you. I salute you. From one NCO to another, one sport's enthusiast to another, and from a dear friend, I thank you for the life you shared.

Sean,

Another year has passed and it stills feels like it was yesterday. You were a great marine and a great friend. Your memory will live forever. Many people who never knew you, now know your story. Letters have been written and words spoken in your honor. Every Veteran's Day the company I work for honors us. Even though they never met you, they have added your name to the list of veterans here. I asked them to take mine off and put yours in. Well, they added you and kept mine. I get emotioanl everytime I think about you man. No one knows like us who have been in it. Due to people like you, freedom will never die.

I did not know Sean, but I recently started assisting at the school his son attends. Today I was walking by our alter to honor the dead, and I saw his face in a picture, along with Tyler's. It made me so terribly sad, but it is a beautiful picture. A candid shot of a Father, resting his lips on the head of his son. I am so sorry Tyler will never get to see his Father again in this life, but I am glad he has memories like that one. My deepest sympathies, as I am sure it hurts still every day.

I have waited to sign this guest book for almost three years, always waiting to find the right words. I know now that those words will never come, because words cannot convey everything you meant to me, our family, and so many friends. Yet out of all those people, I was the only one who had the honor of being your brother. Every day brings a flash of a memory... sneaking peaks at Christmas presents, watching you play X-Box, us beating each other up, going on McD runs for you... I miss seeing you goof around with Tyler, or give me a shot in the arm and then run away, or getting the chance to introduce you to Michelle. Unlike so many people that lose a loved one, I have no regrets... Mutti, Dad, Erin and I always knew what we meant to you, and what you meant to us. While I would give anything to have you back, I wouldn't give up our memories, our relationship, our childhood, for anything. It is fitting that this is called Legacy.com, because you have left behind a legacy that few could ever match. Semper Fi, Sean.

I remember the first thought in my mind was not him. Its impossible. Sean and I were friends with an understanding of what it meant to sacrifice and be driven. We went through school together, enlisted together, Parris Island, and constant training sessions passing each other. I remember us both being gung ho about going recon, but the Corps had other ideas for us. I will never get passed the feeling that I should have been there for him, that if I had just been there. He was my friend, and my marine brother. I honor his sacrifice, and the life he lead. To his men...thank you for being real marines. His efforts were not in vain. He was a man of his word, and true integrity. I will never forget you Sean. You will always inspire me. Thanks for everything. The Few, The Proud, The Marines. Semper Fi!

I know I'm a little late in signing this but I have just recently found out about the website. Sgt. Miles was my infantry school instructor in February of 2002 and I know that everyone, especially myself looked up to him greatly. I can still remember a speech he gave one night after a hump where he was so deeply motivated by a certain Marine in our platoon. Unfortunately I was also there the night he died. I was not a member of his unit, but, I was in the Mortuary affairs det. that was responsible for sending Sgt. Miles back home. I didn't want to believe it was him there in that room and it took me awhile to come to terms with the fact. I am extremely PROUD to have been tought how to be a Marine by Sgt. Miles I will never forget him. I only wish I could have known him more.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

When we were fortunate enough to meet you in Pittsburgh, it truly was the best way we could say thank you to your son for his courage and bravery in serving the United States of America. All of you and Sean will always be in our prayers and hearts. Thank you for sharing a piece of yourself with us - just as your son did. It is clear what an honorable man he was. I was a fortunate Marine to have had Sgt. Sean Miles as an Infantry Instuctor at Camp Geiger December 2002. His students use to always talk about how awesome of a Marine he was when we were given liberty. We would always talk about wanting to be just like him when we got to the fleet. When ever Sgt. Miles spoke Marines listened whole heartedly because we understood he knew what he was talking about. Whether it be his instuction of choke holds or the importance of doing the right thing for the right reasons. Sgt Miles was the finest Marine and man I ever had the oppurtunity to meet. We as Marines will endeavour to emmulate his example at all times. I will always value his great deeds and demeanor as long as I live thanks to his efforts. I wish the family the best of regards. I would also like to say thank you to his family for raising an awesome man.

I truly don't know where to start. Sean was more to me, my husband and my kids than a friend he was family. Known to me and my husband as brother and to my children as uncle Sean. My husband Kendall and Sean met at SOI at camp Lejeune Nc while they were instructors and became very close. they were two peas in a pod and a dangerous combination together. I loved and adored Sean and when he met his Wife Gen and introduced her to me I instantly loved and adored her, they made the perfect couple. They will forever be special to me and my kids.Gen you are my sister forever and we are now connected in a way that nobody can compete with. know always that Kendall and Sean are up their looking down on us and smiling, laughing and of course making fun of us for all the stupid things we do. They loved us more than life just as we loved them and continue to love them. we were truly blessed to be married to the two finest Marines that have ever served. All my love and SEMPER FI!

Sean, Gen, Tyler, Miles Family, Valadez Family,

Thank you Sean for your courage and strength and for standing up and fighting for our country. Gen, I love you and I am praying daily that through this terrible loss you are still able to feel the peace of God. Call out to Jesus and He WILL carry you through this. Through the sadness I hope you never feel bitterness. Bitterness begats anger and anger begats hatered, and through all of this I pray your love is never tainted by hatered, bitterness or anger. Remember Sean's love and lean on God's unconditional love. My heart and prayers go out to both the Miles and Valadez family's. May God bless you all. I am truely sorry for you loss.

To the family of Sgt. Sean H. Miles;

We were deeply saddened and touched to read of the death of Sgt. Miles, and to see a picture of his wife Genevieve, and son Tyler in the Philadelphia Inquirer on 2/3/06.

Although we have never met, my wife and I extend to you our deepest sympathy and condolences.

As a veteran and son of a veteran, as parents of two sons who have served in the military, we appreciate and honor the dedication, fidelity and heroism of Sgt. Miles who paid the ultimate price in service to his fellow Marine and to his country. And we will forever be in debt to the supreme sacrifice made by his wife, his son, and his family.

May God bless you all and we will always keep you in our prayers.

Sincerely,

Mr and Mrs Richard F. Hamilton

My deepest sympathies goes out to Mr. and Mrs. Miles, Chris, Erin, Genevieve, Tyler and close relatives. May God continue to bless the Miles Family.

I am still in utter disbelief that he has escaped us. My heart goes out to all who are grieving from such a huge loss. Just from reading all the entries, it is clearly evident that Sean was a great servant. He serve us all with passion, loyalty, kindness, laughter and we just have so many great memories. I will never forget the following: days he would ripped his shirts while disagreeing with a bad call made in our pickup basketball games, days spent fishing in Woodlake, days playing football and just hanging out being one of the guys.

I pray that Sean's spirit shines an overwhelming light into Tyler because it was this great spirit that touched everyone he came in contact with.

Until we meet again. I love you. R.I.P.

To the family of Sgt. Miles:

I know your pain, and I know how much you are hurting. My brother is another fallen hero. He was killed by an IED in Fallujah on 12/1/05. I know that words are not much comfort right now, but you are in my thoughts and prayers. Our Marines were doing great things, and I am very proud of them! They made the ultimate sacrifice, allowing us to continue enjoying the freedom we have today. I have never met Sean, but the fact that he was a Marine says it all. They only accept the best! Sean: Thank you for your bravery, your selfishness, and your sacrifice. You are a HERO! Rest In Peace, Marine.
