Charles Dugan Obituary

Dugan, Charles E. WATERVLIET Charles E. Dugan, 90, a lifelong resident of Watervliet, died on Tuesday, April 22, 2008 at St. Mary's Hospital in Troy while under the care of the Com-munity Hospice of Rensselaer County. Born on July 5, 1917, Charles was the son of the late Charles and Dorothy Archambeault Dugan. He was educated in the former Sacred Heart of Mary School in Watervliet and was employed by the Allegheny Ludlum Steel Company in Watervliet. Charles enlisted in the Army Air Forces during World War II and served his country in India and Burma. For his service, he was awarded the American Service Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Service Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. He was honorably discharged from service on January 5, 1946 and returned to Watervliet and his job at Allegheny Ludlum. He continued to work until 1983, following which he enjoyed a long retirement. In retirement, Charles enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family, friends and his longtime companion, Caroline Riley. He was a communicant of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish in Watervliet. He was preceded in death by his siblings, James, Walter and Dorothy Dugan and Mary Seney Foulett, and his loving companion, Caroline Riley. He is survived by his brother, Edward Dugan of Mechanicville; his sister, Joan De Giorgio of Troy; his sister-in-law, Ann "Nancy" Dugan of Watervliet; many nieces and nephews. Funeral from the Parker Bros. Memorial, 2013 Broadway, Watervliet on Friday at 9 a.m. and at 9:30 a.m. in St. Brigid's Church, Watervliet, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the pastor, Rev. L. Edward Deimeke. Interment will follow in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Watervliet. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home Thursday 4-7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Community Hospice of Rensselaer County, 295 Valley View Blvd., Rensselaer, NY 12144 in memory of Charles E. To The Dugan Family,

I was sorry to learn of Charlie's passing. Many, many years ago, I met him thru Caroline and a more devoted man, one will never find. A true gentlemen in every sense of the word. Charlie will be missed. He was a gift and I was glad to say that I knew him.
