Ethel MacFarland Obituary

MacFarland, Ethel ORANGE CITY, Fla. Ethel MacFarland, 93, a former resident of Delmar, died Sunday, June 8, 2008 at John Knox Village, Orange City. Born in Bennington, Vt., she was the daughter of the late Maria Quinn Giguere and Arthur Giguere. She graduated from Pittsfield High School and Simmons College, receiving her RN degree from Peter Bent Brigham Hospital in 1937. She moved to Albany to begin her nursing career and, while there, met and married her husband, Paul. Their marriage lasted 49 years until his death in 1992. Ethel continued nursing until her retirement from the Albany Veterans Administration Hospital in 1978. Mrs. MacFarland is survived by a daughter, Roberta (Philip) Rice of Delmar; grandchildren, Geoffrey (Sophia) Rice, Douglas Rice, Sarah Peck and Amy Peck; and a great-granddaughter, Penelope June Rice. She is also survived by a brother, Arthur (Ruth) Giguere and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Paul and daughter, Nancy-Jo Peck. A memorial service is planned for June 30 at the John Knox Chapel, Orange City. Interment will be in the Bethlehem Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association of NYS, 155 Washington Ave., Suite 210, Albany, NY 12210.
