Thelma S. Murphy

Murphy, Thelma S. SCHENECTADY Thelma S. Murphy, 92, of Queen Philomena Blvd., passed away Friday morning, June 20, 2008 at the Kingsway Arms Nursing Home. Thelma was born in Schenectady on December 25, 1915, the daughter of the late Robert and Mary Carlos Stearns. A lifelong area resident, she attended the former Nott Terrace High School and was employed by General Electric as a secretary for 22 years. Thelma was a longstanding communicant of St. Paul the Apostle Church, a member of the rosary society, and the church's senior citizens. She was also a member of the Rotterdam Lions Club, Rotterdam Senior Citizens, Highbridge Civic Association and the Ancient Order of Hibernians. For over five decades, Thelma played Bridge with many of her good friends. On her 90th birthday, the Bridge Club celebrated the occasion at the Mohawk Golf Club. Beloved wife of the late Robert J. Murphy, whom she married May 12, 1956. He later died September 14, 1999. Thelma is survived by her daughter, Linda A. Murphy and her husband Paul Prostowich of Castleton; and her goddaughter, Kathy Wixted and her husband Ray Gemme. The family thanks the staff of the Kingsway Community for the care she received at Kingsway Arms in the past month, for home care services, and for helping her to enjoy her home in the Kingsway Village Apartments for the last five years. Funeral service will be held Monday at 8:30 a.m. from the Daly Funeral Home, 242 McClellan Street, then to St. Paul the Apostle Church, Albany Street and Kings Road, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Entombment will follow in Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery Mausoleum, Niskayuna. Calling hours to which relatives and friends are invited will be held Sunday, 4 to 6 p.m. at the Daly Funeral Home.
