Carol Mitchell Obituary

Mitchell, Carol M. LOUDONVILLE Carol M. Mitchell, 49, died peacefully Friday, June 20, 2008 at Albany Memorial Hospital in Albany, N.Y. after a courageous four-year battle with cancer. She was surrounded by many caring family members and friends. She is survived by her loving husband of 23 years, Joseph D. Mitchell and their three children, Cara Nolan, Michael Joseph and Emily Faith; daughter of Mary Faith Turner of Loudonville, N.Y. and the late Honorable John G. Turner Jr.; her four sisters: Catherine Dascher (Norman, Kristin and Kelly) of Loudonville, N.Y.; Karen Turner Tyrrell (Timothy, Timothy, Jr. and Brendan) of Albany, N.Y.; Faith Turner Chrisom (Sean, Caroline and Conor) of Holliston, Mass.; Mary Ellen Liguori (John, Mary Faith and Jake) of Albany, N.Y.; brother, John G. Turner III (Beth, Joshua, Julia and Ali Faith) of Potsdam, N.Y.; uncle and aunt Tom and Sue Forrest; brother-in-law Michael Mitchell (Kathy, Krystal, Karly and Eric) of Portsmith, R.I.; late brother-in-law Mark Mitchell (Maryanne, Kelly, Ryan and Megan) of Wyckoff, N.J. and dear friends Barbara Ferraro (Steve, Nicole and Brian) of Saratoga Springs, N.Y. Carol attended Holy Cross Grade School, the Academy of the Holy Names, Lemoyne College and Albany Law School. She was a capable attorney and worked for Maynard, O'Connor and Smith and the State of New York, before choosing to be a full time mother to her three children. She was a devoted member of St. Pius Church. More than anything, Carol will be remembered for her deep faith in God, her special devotion to the Blessed Mother, as well as her devotion to her husband, children and family. She had a contagious smile, a great sense of humor and many deep and loyal friendships. She was an inspiration to everyone that knew her. Carol and her family would like to thank the Community Hospice staff; the nurses at Albany Memorial Hospital and St. Peter's Hospital; Dr. Nancy Kemeny and the staff at Memorial Sloan Kettering; Dr. Larry Garbo and all the many nurses and "chemo friends" at NYOH who stood by her side throughout the journey. Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate her life at the Church of St. Pius X in Loudonville on Tuesday, June 24 at 11 a.m. Calling hours will held on Monday at the church from 4-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the Academy of the Holy Names, 1075 New Scotland Road, Albany, NY 12208-1037.

On a recent trip back to the area I learned of Carol's passing. Although we haven't seen each other in many, many years the impact of losing Carol, a warm, caring individual was like a six inch valley in the middle of my soul. I recall her infectious smile, the radiance that emanated from her laugh, the stories she'd share. It's been a long time, but memories of Carol are tattooed on my heart. My prayers and thoughts are with you during this difficult time.

TO Carol's Family - my fond and fun memories of our years together at Holy Cross, Holy Names and the neighborhood are crystal clear. Her smile, like her fathers, was bright and sincere, if not a bit mischievous. I know His Honor is happy to have Carol by his side again. I am very sorry for your loss.

Dear Faith and Joe and all of my
Turner nieces and nephews:
The passing of my niece, Carol, saddens me and I wish to express my sympathies to all of you. When your Uncle, Dr. John N. Forrest, died in 1992, I moved to Savannah and remarried. Since then my son and your cousin, Major John A. Forrest, USMC, and I have kept up with your families through Uncle Tom and Aunt Sue. Carol was a beautiful child, a lovely young woman, a stunning Bride and an outstanding lawyer and mother. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
With Love and Sympathy,

My deepest sympathy & heartlfelt prayers go out to all of you at this very trying time. Although, it has been close to 30 years that I have seen Carol, I fondly remember her close friendship with Jane Hans and seeing her so often during those High School years.
I don't ever want to think they broke the mold after she was born because this world needs 1,000's more like her everywhere!
I will always remember that smile of hers it shined like a light house bringing hope & joy to all.

Joe, Faith & Family -

We were so saddened when Roger told us of Carol's passing. As you know, she was such a wonderful friend and source of great support for my sister Anne when she progressed through her battle with cancer. Anne found such great comfort and joy in Carol's kind words and friendship. We could never thank Carol enough for all her support for Anne. I know how hard it must have been for Carol to attend Anne's funeral and numerous Mass remembrances, but she did which showed the great courage and strength that Carol graciously exhibited throughout her own illness. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your families as you mourn Carol's passing. I am sure God has a very special place in heaven for all cancer victims and may they now rest eternally in God's great peace. Please accept our heartfelt condolences!

Fondly,

Dan, Margarita, Joseph, Nicholas & Mia

My first impression of Carol, many years ago, was one of serenity. Our children attended St. Pius together for many years. Her spirituality was evident to anyone who gazed upon her. I will treasure the many mommy memories that we experienced at St. Pius.

I can't even begin to tell all of you how much I will miss Carol. I looked forward to the days that I worked for her. We would always start the day by sharing stories and they were mostly about our kids! And she was so proud of you all, whenever she talked about any of you she would just smile from ear to ear.
She was always concerned about my health issues no matter what she was going through, such an inspiration to me. And really taught every one around her how to live for the moment.
I will always remember her smile, laughter, sincerity, compassion and the love that she always had for anyone she came in touch with.
You are all in my thoughts and prayers and if there is anything at all that I can do for you, please let me know.
Love,
Karen Junco
