Daniel Plesser Obituary

Plesser, Daniel ALBANY Daniel "Danny" Plesser, age 82, of Link Street in Albany, died on Wednesday morning, June 25, 2008 at the Stratton VA Medical Center in Albany. Danny was a lifelong Albany resident and was a graduate of the former Philip Schuyler High School in Albany. He was a United States Army veteran and served during World War II. After World War II, Danny became disabled but operated with his brother, Plesser Brothers Waste Paper and Scrap Metal on Arch Street in Albany for 45 years. Despite being in a wheelchair for over 58 years, he successfully operated a business, raised his family and contributed his time to many civic organizations. He was a member of the Albany Jewish War Veterans Post #105 and also served as the commander at one time. He was also a member of Albany City Lodge #540 Knights of Pythias in Albany. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Barbara Price Plesser; his daughter, Dr. Dawn Hopper and her husband David of Voorheesville, N.Y. and Martin Plesser and his wife Eloise of Albany; brother of Hymie and Samuel Plesser, both of Albany, and Reva Tavelman (William) of Calif.; grandfather of Justin and Emily Storr, Melissa, Michael and Matthew Hopper, Erica, Monya, Kerri, Jed, Devon and Tommy Plesser; great-grand-father of Matthew and Austin Sanford and Ziara and Shayne Plesser. He also leaves several nieces and nephews; and a sister-in-law, Marilyn Plesser. Danny was predeceased by a son, David Mark Plesser and a brother, Louis Plesser. Services at the Levine Memorial Chapel, 649 Washington Avenue, Albany on Friday, June 27, 2008 at 1:30 p.m. Interment will follow in the Temple Israel Cemetery, Guilderland, N.Y. Those wishing to remember Danny in a special way may make a memorial contribution to a charity of your choice. Following the service of interment, relatives and friends are invited to the home of Danny's daughter. The period of mourning will be observed at the Plesser residence 25 Link Street in Albany on Sunday through Thursday. Danny was the oldest living paraplegic in the United States and his perseverance zeal for life and accomplishments were an inspiration to all those who knew him.

I am so sorry for your loss, being a visiting nurse to Mr. Plesser almost 10 yrs ago and most recent a nurse at the VA. I have known him for all those years and he was a survivor. May he rest in peace.
