I had heard that he was ill but had not known how serious it was...
A friend recognized his photo in the Times Union as one of the photos I have on my business card - I'm the photographer who took it! I met Mike when I took that photo - in his kitchen!
His smiling face has been with me ever since and I had enjoyed hearing him on the radio thinking - I know him - how cool.
My sympathies to Mike's family.

I met Mike about 23 years ago, while filming "The Lighter side of Sports" for ESPN. I was the mascot for the NJ Nets at the time. I marveled at his routine everytime I got to see him perform. I was honored and thrilled to be by his side in early June for a couple of days when i flew up to share some laughs with him. He had recently recieved an autographed ball from Big Ben the starting QB of the Steelers, that he was so excited about. I told Esther he was a Great friend and consider me President of the Mike Irwin Fan Club. I will Miss him DAILY.

I am very sorry to here about Uncle Michael's passing. Our whole church has been praying for him from the start. It has kind of hard for me to deal with this because last year my father passed away and now these kids no longer have a father and another thing they were both the same age of 47. Hope you all are finding the best possible way ro deal with this.

I wish to express my sincere condolences to the entire Irwin family on the loss of Michael. I have fond childhood memories of attending Sunday school classes with Mike, Mark and David. I find it difficult to believe that both Mike and Mark have passed on. Once again, please accept my sincere condolences in your time of grieving and loss – you are in my thoughts and prayers.

Dear Esther, Connor, and family,
I am so sorry for your loss. I adored Mike, we all did. He was a humble teacher, an intelligent, sensitive individual who never told you what you did wrong, but only what you did right. He has stamped the heart of many. Mike was the kind of guy who entered a room - not as "Here I am" - but - "Why there you are"! Mike was once in-a-lifetime person - someone we will all miss.
