Agnes McNamara Obituary

McNamara, Agnes E. BRUNSWICK Agnes Ellen McNamara of Brunswick, N.Y., died July 9, 2008 at St. Mary's Hospital, Troy, N.Y., in the care of Hospice following a long illness and complications due to diabetes. She died surrounded by her loving family. Ellen was born December 3, 1925 in Amsterdam, N.Y. to Agnes and Hugh McNeil. Ellen graduated from Amsterdam High School in June 1943. She was employed by Mohaso Industries of Amsterdam for many years before being married to Leo Joseph McNamara, September 1948, in Amsterdam. Ellen dedicated her life to caring for her large family. Among her other interests were knitting, bowling, gardening and reading. For many years, Ellen was a member of the Spring Avenue Block Rosary and was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church. She is survived by her husband Leo and by five children, Mary Ellen (Howard Whitehead) of Lynnfield, Mass., Hugh (Adrienne) of Lansingburg, N.Y., Leo (Iva) of Amsterdam, Anne (Beaman Cole) of Chester, N.H., and Maura (Martin Bonville) of Clifton Park, N.Y.; her grandchildren, Meghan and Ashley Whitehead, Michelle, Kevin, Brandon, and Lauren McNamara, Tina McNamara, Tessa and Skyler Cole, and Danielle Bonville; and by her great-grandchildren, John and Tyler Scott and Christian McNamara. She was predeceased by two brothers, Richard and Robert McNeil. The family wishes to express it's appreciation for the excellent care and kindness shown to Ellen by the staffs of Van Rensselaer Manor and St. Mary's Hospital and Hospice. The funeral will be on Saturday at 8:45 a.m. from the Daniel D. Purcell Funeral Home, 510 Pawling Ave. at Parkview Court, Troy and at 9:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, 310 Spring Ave. (at Pawling Ave.), Troy, where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will be in Saint Mary's Cemetery Mausoleum in Troy. Viewing will be private. Donations, in Ellen's memory, may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society (at Sacred Heart Church) and to Sacred Heart School, both of Troy, in lieu of flowers.
