Dorothy O'Connell Obituary

O'Connell, Dorothy C. EAST GREENBUSH Dorothy C. (Schubert) Abston O'Connell, 85, formerly of N. Greenbush, died Thursday, July 10, 2008, at the Evergreen Commons Nursing Home in East Greenbush after a lengthy illness. Dorothy was born, raised and lived most of her life in Rensselaer and was a secretary/-stenographer for NYS government. She was an avid bowler and bowled in several leagues, and a member of St. Timothy's Lutheran Church in N. Greenbush. Predeceased by her parents, John and Carrie (Rabe) Schubert; her husbands, Thomas E. O'Connell, and Steve B. Abston Sr.; a daughter, Dorothy E. O'Connell; a son, Kenneth J. Abston; and a brother, Kenneth Schubert. She is survived by her sons, Steve B. Abston and Edward W. O'Connell; a stepdaughter, Catherine Stephenson of Springfield; a sister, Carolyn D. Vines; also survived by nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Friends and relatives are invited to attend her funeral 10:30 a.m. on Monday from the Rockefeller Funeral Home, 165 Columbia Tpk., Rensselaer, N.Y. Friends may call in the funeral home on Sunday from 2-5 p.m. Interment will be in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Colonie, N.Y. The family has requested that those who wish to remember Dorothy make contributions to Hudson Mohawk Humane Society, 1 Oakland Avenue, Men-ands, NY 12204 in her memory.
