Harry Mooney Obituary

Mooney, Harry A. ALBANY Harry A. Mooney, 76, of Albany, passed away on Friday, July 11, 2008 at his residence after a long illness. He was born in Susquehanna, Pa. and was the son of the late James and Esther Ahearn Mooney. Harry had served in the U.S. Navy from 1951 through 1955. He was an insurance evaluator with Continental Insurance Company and then for 25 years with NYS Department of Motor Vehicles, retiring in 1990. He later worked with the Jewish Community Center, providing transportation and delivering Meals On Wheels. Harry enjoyed Siena basketball, baseball, fishing and engaging in political discourse. He was a true Irish story teller with the heart of a poet, frequently reciting and more recently, writing his own poetry. He was a friend of Bill W's and through this fellowship he became known to many simply as Harry the Hat. He was most grateful for his family and the love of his beautiful wife of 50 years. Harry is the beloved husband of Helen Neeson Mooney. He was predeceased by his eldest daughter, Marie Conde (Jim Conde). He is the devoted father of Mary Costantino, Michael Mooney (Rebecca Spence), Kate Mooney, Martin Mooney (Jennifer), Maureen Whalen (Dave) and Thomas Mooney. He is the brother of Sister Joan Mooney, IHM, the late Mary Byron, the late Kevin Mooney; and cherished uncle of Betsy Mooney. He is the grandfather of Ryan, Jason, Colin, Eric, Clara, David, Sarah and Erin. Many nieces and nephews also survive. Harry's family expresses its deepest gratitude to Dr. Abul Azad for his constant care provided to Harry. Funeral services will be Wednesday morning at 8:30 at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave.) then to St. Teresa of Avila Church at 9:30 where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Calling hours will be Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Saratoga National VA Cemetery. In keeping with Harry's gentle spirit, memorial contributions are suggested to the Salvation Army, 20 S. Ferry Street, Albany, NY 12202. Hellen and Family, Harry was a very special person to me and my family. As for many others he had tried to help my father through his trials and tribulations. I thank Harry for all he has ever done for our family. I'am so thankful my girls were able to meet Harry. We would stop by every Halloween to visit Harry and Hellen until a yr ago or so. Harry may you rest in peace and say hi to my mom and dad for me. Love Liz, Eric, Erica and Kayla

Helen and Family,

There is nothing I can say to relieve the pain and loss that you feel. Harry's passing will cause much sadness to the many people who knew and loved him; especially those whom he guided to a better way of life. He has taught me much and he will never be forgotten for his good works, truthfulness, honesty and compassion. I also will NEVER forget the "secret handshake" he taught me many years ago nor what it stood for. God bless you all and never forget, "One day at a time".

You know we are here for you!

Love Matt and Terry (Brother and Uncle and Aunt)
