John Berry Obituary

Berry, John P. Sr. TROY Mr. John "Jack" P. Berry Sr., 74, of Troy, passed into eternal life Thursday afternoon, July 17, 2008 at the Hospice Inn at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany, surrounded by his loving and devoted family. Jack was born in Troy and was the son of the late Philip J. and Elizabeth Dewan Berry and loving husband for over 50 years to Virginia Conway Berry of Troy. Jack had been employed as a bus driver for the CDTA for 38 years. He was a former city of Troy councilman, Troy city marshall, sixth ward leader in Troy, was a member for years of the Rensselaer Democratic Committee, a delegate for the transit union, a lifetime member of the Patroon Club, a lifetime member of the Emerald Club, a member of the Polish American Club, a member of the East Side Senior Citizens. He and his wife Virginia were members of the Eagles' Club in North Troy. Jack was the last grand ram of the Old Goats club of Mahr's Grill. Jack enjoyed trips to different casinos but, most of all, loved spending time with his family. In addition to his wife Virginia, Jack is also survived by his loving children, Denise (Michael) Fitzgerald of Troy and John P. Berry Jr. (Elizabeth Davis) of Menands. Jack is also survived by his brother and best friend, Joseph (Tonita) Berry of Troy. He was the very proud grandfather of of Kiley, Marissa and Michael Fitzgerald and Abigail Davis, Britney and Sean Berry. Jack is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Eva Conway of Northville and Irene Conway of Watervliet; and several cousins. Jack will certainly be missed by everyone at the Leahy and Bocketti Funeral Homes, where he was a very vital member of our staff and was truly loved and respected by all of us. The family would like to thank the staff at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany for their loving compassion and care given not only to Jack but to the entire family. The funeral service for Jack will be held Monday morning at 10 at St. Michael's Church in Troy where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Relatives and friends are invited to attend and may call at the church Sunday from 3-7 p.m. Interment will follow in the family plot in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Troy. Contributions in Jack's memory to the St. Peter's Hospice in Albany in care of the hospital would be appreciated. Arrangements by the Wm. Leahy Funeral Home, 336 Third St., Troy.

To the Berry Family,
Mr. Berry was the nicest man, always said Hi even if didn't know you. I remember him most from Troy savings bank he and his wife would come in the main office(always with a smile)and then I would see him at the out at a store and he would remembered me. I always thought how sweet. He's in a better place resting and watching over His family. God Bless you at this time. I will continue to pray for you and your family.
