Eugene Sullivan Obituary

Sullivan, Eugene A. ALBANY On July 19, 2008, Eugene A. Sullivan was reunited with his bride of 60 years, Phyllis A. Wood, who predeceased him by seven months. Eugene was at home surrounded by his children and grand-children. Eugene was born in Jersey Shore, N.J. in 1925. His family later moved to Avis, Pa. and then to Albany. Eugene has five children, Eugene C. Sullivan (Debbie Gilham) of Voorheesville, Charles D. Sullivan (Karen Sullivan) of Colonie, Stephen J. Sullivan (Carmel Sullivan) of Broadalbin, Maureen Douglass (Don) of Fort Johnson and Kathleen A. Sullivan of Taos Ski Valley, N.M. Gene was also survived by his sisters-in-law, Carol Handerhan (Colonie), Loretta Garrah (Colonie), and Barbara J. Wood (Agnes-Merry Donlon.) of Schodack. Also survived by his brother, Jack Sullivan (Chris) of Fla. Gene also has nine wonderful grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Gene graduated from CBA in 1942. His career started with Burroughs Corporation with business/office equipment repair. He then opened his own business in Albany, Allied Business Equipment located on Central Avenue. Gene was a communicant and good neighbor to Blessed Sacrament Church and then Our Lady of Mercy and St. Clair's church when they moved the family to Colonie. Gene served in World War II with the U.S. Navy with an honorable discharge in 1946, where he was an avid baseball player and continued playing ball in the Albany Twilight League for many years. Gene was a life member VFW Post 8444 and a member of The American Legion Post 1493, Voorheesville, and a member of the Fuller Road Fire House. Gene and Phyllis were snowbirds in Lakeland, Fla. and enjoyed a lifelong love of golf. Thank you to the team at Concepts of Health who provided at home health care for our Mother and Father. The compassion and personal care provided by you gave them peace and dignity. Once again, the Albany County Hospice professionals gave us the care, knowledge and total support to allow our parents to stay at home and pass away peacefully and naturally. Funeral services will held Wednesday morning 10:30 at Blessed Sacrament Church. Relatives and friends are invited and may also call at the Magin & Keegan Funeral Home, 891 Madison Ave. Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. Interment in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Community Hospice of Albany, 445 New Karner Rd. Albany, NY 12205
