Francis Elmer Hoffman

Hoffman, Francis E. RAVENA On Tuesday, July 22, 2008, Francis Elmer Hoffman, 89, departed from this world and was reunited with Evelyn Jean Hoffman, his prede-ceased wife and love of his life of over 60 years. Francis was at home surrounded by his loving family. Born in Ravena, Francis was the only son of the late Elmer David Hoffman and Bertha Mae Lawson Hoffman. Francis served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Saipan, South Pacific. Upon his return, Francis carried on the family business as a general contractor. He loved building but his special interest was cabinet making. Francis was involved with many organizations and held numerous offices. He was treasure for the Ravena Evangelical Church, building committee for the Wesleyan Church, champlain district, Coeymans Creek Fire Commissioner, Gideon's International, RCS Association of Churches and the Ravena American Legion. Francis was the devoted father of one very special daughter, Susan Jean Hoffman VanAlstyne Williams. He was also the long time friend and now father-in-law of James LeRoy Williams. Francis was the very proud grandfather to one very special grandson, David Joseph VanAlstyne and has grown to love Destiny Star Deyo, girlfriend and companion of David. The family would like to thank the Albany Visiting Nurses for their care. A very special thank you to the St. Peter's Hospice professionals for the continual medical care, knowledge and total support which allowed Francis to pass away peacefully and naturally at home as he wished. Funeral services will be held at the Ravena Evangelical Church, 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 26. Burial will follow in Chestnut Lawn Cemetery, New Baltimore. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Babcock Funeral Home, Ravena on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions in memory of Francis be made to Community Hospice of Albany, 445 New Karner Road, Albany, NY 12205.
