Dear Margo,
I just learned of Sandy's passing this evening. I recall that we first met in 1970 when we both started working in the Albany NYSDSS Regional Office for Seymour Katz and Berta Brewster. Later, I participated in some Friday "noontime seminars" in Jack's with Ed Cox, John O'Connor and Sandy. Sandy has a good sense of humor and he cared about children.
I hope that you are holding up after losing someone who was so close. My wife has struggled with Alzheimer's Disease for 14 years, so I share your feelings of loss.

Margo,

We were very sad to hear about Sandy's passing. Seymour fondly remembers his many "long talks" with Sandy and enjoyed long distance communication with him after we moved to Mexico. You are in our thoughts and prayers.

Margo, I was so sad to hear of Sandy's death. We were friends at Milne so many years ago where I found him wise beyond his years, unfailingly kind and very witty. I knew he would become a fine man and realized he had when we reconnected a few years ago with the Milne alumni site. We stayed in touch through e mail through which I knew of the tragedy of your daughter's death and of Sandy's illness and the great love he had for his family as well as his broad view of life and interest in so many things. My husband joins me in sending our deepest love to you and your family. I will never forget Sandy and you have all our love and support during this painful time.

Dear Margo,
It was with great sadness that I heard of Sandy's passing. We worked together at the State Central Register and I learned so much from him. I could always rely on his experience and knowledge peppered with wisdom and wit. Know that he and you will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Sandy was a true friend over a period spanning 40 years. I met Sandy at SUNY
Albany when he was a senior, I just a freshman. I always looked up to Sandy for his brilliance and wit, his talents and compassion. Sandy gave me several of his mosaics which will always be cherished. Our sincerest condolences go out to Margo, his loving wife who will miss Sandy more than most, but we will never forget having known Sandy and all that he brought to our lives. We will always miss Sandy. Margo, may your grief of the moment soon bring you to everlasting fond memories of your loving husband and best friend.

I have many fond memories of Sandy since we were classmates not only during our Milne years, but also at Junior College of Albany and then SUNY at Albany. He always had a warm smile and a kind, often humouous word and I can now appreciate how he became successful in administration of various human services programs over the years. My last memory of him was meeting him again at one of the Milne reunions--my condolences to his family and friends back home. I have lit a candle in his honor.

To the Berman Family: I am sorry to hear of the passing of such a fine man as Sandy Berman. I worked at the SCR from 1986-1990 and saw Sandy almost daily. When I was thinking about relocating to another State he wrote me such a beautiful recommendation-though I didnt move-I have the letter he wrote to this day. Because I held him in high regard. He was a great person & I am glad i knew him. He will be truly missed. He was such a gentleman & a professional... great role model
My prayers are with you.

Dear Berman Family and Friends,

We were so very sorry to hear of Sandy's passing. We knew Sandy from his days as the director of the SCR. It was an honor working for, and with, Sandy. He was a gentle, kind, engaging man -- with a great smile often accompanied by a bit of a mischievous twinkle in his eyes!

Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

My deepest sympathy to Margo and the Berman family on their loss of a dearly loved one. I will always cherish the memories of birthday lunches with Sandy and two other dear colleagues. Sandy's carefully chosen birthday "gifts" reflected his sense of humor and irony but also his fondness for each of us. Jim and I enjoyed evenings out with Sandy and Margo. We still have some of the souvenirs of trips and sporting events he gave us for our sons to enjoy. We will always remember our thoughtful and kind friend.

So many folks from all around the country are signing in on Sandy's guest book. Sandy would be happy to read all the memories. My tyme with Sandy goes back over 55 years. Good men are wonderful to remember. I pray that Sandy's family and friends will be comforted with fond memories of a life well lived.

Margaret and the Berman Family:

Sandy was one of the friendliest and most genuine people ever known to me after starting my career with N.Y.S. in 1973.

We worked in the same office and were team-mates on the DSS soft-ball team. He was always smiling, laughing and warmly greeted everyone with whom he worked and socialized.

My favorite memory of Sandy is when, in 1974, he displayed a letter, from the NY Yankees' front office. Thanking him for his most generous offer to become the team's next manager.

Can't tell you how much this news saddens me.

Your own feelings of sadness and loss must be overwhelming as well.

May your period of bereavement and grief be, mercifully, short.

God bless you all.

I was so sorry to read about Sandy. I worked with him at the SCR from 1978-1985. He used to steal the chips off my desk when I ate lunch there. He will be missed. I hope the end was peaceful.
