Elinor Clough Obituary

CLOUGH Elinor "Ellie" A graveside service will be held for "Ellie" on Thursday, July 31, 2008 at Oakwood Cemetery in Troy. Those wishing to attend will meet at 1:45 p.m. in front of the Gardner Earl Chapel directly off the main entrance on Oakwood Avenue. The Rev. Michael I. Gorchov, rector of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Troy, will officiate. Always of a good heart and cheerful disposition, Ellie's motto was: "Laugh in the face of a storm." She is survived by a brother, a niece and a grandniece. Katherine Nelson Whiton, her mother, will be buried next to her. Wife of deceased Troy attorney Harry F. Whiton, Kate worked for many years as a librarian at the Troy Public Library. Her motto was: "Believe each day to have dawned as your last. And then do good." She, too, had the gift of laughter. Ellie, The years pass by,but you are still missed. Your sense of humor was only yours, and Priscilla and I will remember it forever.

"Aunt" Ellie was more than our friend, she was our family. I grew up with her at all family functions and special events in my life. A joke that we shared for many years revolved around candles. I got them in many shapes and sizes anytime she could find unique ones. Your "light" will shine on in my heart forever. You are greatly loved and missed.

Two years and it feels like yesterday.
I miss you so much and think about you every day. The greatest friend I ever had. Till we meet again. Love you.

Ellie was ALWAYS the life of the party... always cheerful, always willing to share her good nature with everyone... I knew her from work and admired her strength, courage and laughter... DTF never was the same without her and neither will this earth be.....

Ellie was a dear friend to me and Priscilla. Having the honor to dress as her husband at Ellie's retirement party, I guess you could say we were dear friends! Ron & Priscilla Van Arnum

I went to Troy High School with Elinor - we were good friends. We used to hang out together quite a lot - she was talented as an artist and she could always make you laugh. We corresponded for a while after I moved to Florida in '55 but, sadly we lost touch. She was a great and true friend thoughout my high school days. A lovely person and a lovely spirit.
