Alexander Rollo Obituary

Rollo, Alexander F. NISKAYUNA Alexander F. Rollo of Ash Tree Lane, passed away Thursday, August 7, 2008 at home with his family by his side. He maintained his unique sense of humor until the end. Alex was born at home in Scotia, N.Y. to Jessie and David Rollo. He lived in Scotia until 1934 when his mother took ill. Alex moved to Coaltown of Weymss, Scotland in 1934 to live with his grandparents, father and sister, Sarah Frances. When the war between Britain and Germany become evident, he returned to Scotia in the spring of 1939. Alex graduated from Scotia High School in 1948. He worked for General Electric for three years while attending Siena College from which he graduated in 1955 with a BBA in accounting. Upon graduation from Siena's ROTC program, he received a commission of first lieutenant in the U.S. Army 10th Mountain Division and for two years, toured Germany. He returned in 1958 and took a position as a New York State bank examiner for audit and control where he met his wife of 36 years, Camille. Alex went on to work for the division of the budget where he retired in 1992 as a chief budget examiner following 34 1/2 years of state civil service. Alex's favorite passions were watching the New York Yankees, Siena Basketball, reading and spending vacations with his family in Cape Cod and Maine. Besides his parents, Alex was predeceased in October 1996 by his beloved wife, Camille and his sister, Frances Barnes in January 2004. Survivors include his devoted daughter, Kathie and her husband Ken of Niskayuna; his cherished grandson, Sean G. Douglas of Niskayuna; sister, Annie Godell of Glenville; several nieces and nephews; and his dear friend, Marilyn Herlihy of Yonkers. The Ziobrowski/Douglas family would like to thank the staff of Albany Medical Center's Emergency and D4 departments, Sunnyview Rehabilitation Hospital and Ellis Hospital's Intensive Care Unit and Community Hospice of Schenectady. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated Monday morning at 9:00 at St. John the Evangelist Church, Union St., Schenectady. Calling hours will be Sunday from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the Gleason Funeral Home, 730 Union Street. Burial with military honors will be in St. Cyril & Method Cemetery, Rotterdam. In accordance with Alex's wishes, memorial contributions in his memory may be made to the Siena College Annual Fund, 515 Loudon Road, Loudonville, NY 12211 or the Community Hospice of Schenectady, 1411 Union Street, Schenectady, NY 12308.
