Katherine Beyor Obituary

Beyor, Katherine "Kay" (Shulfelt) NEW SALEM Katherine "Kay" Beyor, passed away peacefully Monday, August 18, 2008 at her daughter and son-in-law's home with Cathy and Bill at her side. Born in Brooklyn, Katherine was the daughter of Joseph and Catherine Zengerle. Kay is survived by her loving children, Cathy (William) McGrath, Craig Shufelt; six grandchildren, Cathy (David) Cafarelli, William McGrath, Dawn McGrath, Brian McGrath, Holli Alacanti ( Matthew), Craig Adam Shufelt; and four great-grandchildren. Although Kay lived in Brooklyn during her early life, she became a lifelong resident of her beloved Voorheesville. Kay worked for many years at the telephone company and she later became a secretary and payroll clerk for J. C. Klein. Even after Kay "retired", she stayed active and involved. Kay was a crossing guard for the Voorheesville Elementary School. Kay's sense of humor was legendaryShe loved a good joke, funny greeting cards, browsing through magazines, and, most of all, never missed a Nascar event on television. Kay loved to look stylish - even her walker was decorated with her favorite trinkets. Kay bowled in a league for many years, was president and now vice president of New Salem Fire Department Ladies Auxillary along with the distinction of being a life time member. She tried to never miss a parade or a fish fry benefit. Kay was determined to live life to the fullest and her exercise program at Strong Bones gives proof to that. On a recent birthday, Kay was thrilled to be able to go for a ride in a Hummer. She was Tom Jones' biggest fan and was able to go to his most recent concert in Albany. Kay will be missed by all who knew and loved her. The funeral service will be 9:30 a.m. Thursday at New Comer-Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd, Colonie. Calling hours will be Wednesday 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to New Salem Fire Department or Community Hospice of Albany, 445 New Karner Rd., Colonie, NY 12205.

Cathy, I wish I was home to share in your struggle... I know your Mom was at peace in your home; your devotion and love for her was always evident, but certainly her last days with you & Bill taking care of her let her go to her rest with love in her heart and peace in her soul. I love you, Liz

May your hearts soon be filled with wonderful memories of joyful times together as you celebrate a life well-lived. I did not know Kay personally, however, living in V'Ville and being involved in the fire service, I would see Kay at many activities and events. She was everywhere and I'm sure was an inspiration to all for living life to its fullest.

Dear Brian, Holli, Craig and the McGrath and Shufelt families,
my deepest sympathy goes out to you during this very sad time. I remember Kay when she worked at V'ville Elementary school. She was always a very nice person and a very regal lady.

To the Shufelt Family,

These words are filled with thoughts and understanding, and more than anything else, with a hope that each day ahead will bring a measure of comfort.

May all of your happy memories of Kay help to ease the sorrow that you feel.

New Salem will never be the same without Kay and we will all miss her at all of the outings / meetings she attended.
