Phoebe Seidman Obituary

Seidman, Phoebe BALLSTON LAKE Phoebe Gilman Seidman, age 83, of Ballston Lake, N.Y., died on Thursday evening, August 21, 2008 at the Hospice Inn at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany. Phoebe was born on October 13, 1924 in Brooklyn, N.Y. She was a graduate of Brooklyn College and taught elementary school in NYC for over 20 years. She was an accomplished violist who began viola lessons at age eight. She played in many community orchestras and chamber groups in Brooklyn and the Capital District, most recently with the Music Company Orchestra where she remained active until the time of her passing. Phoebe has been a Ballston Lake resident since 1991. She was predeceased by her adoring husband of 52 years, Herbert Seidman, whom she married in 1943. She is survived by her loving sons and daughters-in- law, Peter Seidman and his wife Ann of Ballston Lake, N.Y. and Richard Seidman and his wife Rachael Resch of Ashland, Ore. and her loving sister, Shirley Coyne of Colonia, N.J. She also leaves her cherished granddaughter, Sara Seidman of Baltimore, Md. Services at the New Montefiore Cemetery Farming-dale, Long Island on Sunday, August 24, 2008 at 10:15 a.m. The period of mourning will be observed at the home of Peter and Ann Seidman, 33 Huckleberry Lane in Ballston Lake, N.Y. commencing on Monday and continuing through Friday. Visitors are welcome to call throughout the afternoon daily. A minyan service will be held Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings at 7 p.m. Those wishing to remember Phoebe in a special way may make a memorial contribution to the the Music Company Orchestra, PO Box 132, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866. levinememorialchapel.com
