Bob was my step-father in-law for a lot of years. He always lived in New York. I lived in Ohio and now live in Florida. We talked on the phone every ‘blue moon’. We saw each other even less frequently. But still, I’m sure going to miss him.

The interesting thing about our relationship was that whenever we got together, one of us was on vacation. One of was always seriously looking to have some fun. The other was always eager to go along for the ride.

Road trips were our specialty. We saw and did a lot of neat stuff. We always found a way to get to a baseball game or hockey match. We also enjoyed our share of hotdogs and beer once we got there. Last time he was down, he brought along a ticket for me to the Daytona 500. I will never forget how powerful those cars are in person. I will never forget how cold we were that day.

Bob had a quality about him that I hold in very high esteem. Our oldest daughter is severely disabled. Over the years, I’ve noticed how the vast majority of folks aren’t comfortable engaging Megan like they would anyone else. It’s as if they just assume she doesn’t understand, so there is no point in really talking to her. Bob was never like that. He talked to Megan just like he talked to our other daughter Holly. He treated both girls exactly alike. I loved him for that.

And again, I sure am going to miss him

My condolences to Bob's family. I hadn't seen Bob in a few years, but am very grateful for the childhood memories of our families growing up. May the sorrow of Bob's passing soon be replaced with warm thoughts.
