Frances Valerio Obituary

Valerio, Frances CAMBRIDGE, N.Y. Frances Cristaldi Valerio, 88, died peacefully on Sunday, August 24, 2008, surrounded by her loving family. She was the widow of Theodore A. Valerio who died in 1981. Born in Manhattan on April 1, 1920, she was the daughter of Vincenzo and Serafina DeMarco Cristaldi. The family moved to Cambridge in 1931 and Frances graduated from Cambridge Union School, class of 1937. Frances moved to Brooklyn where she met and married her husband in 1942. The family moved to Valley Stream, L.I. in 1953 and lived there until returning to Cambridge in 1975. For a number of years Frances wintered in Orange City, Fla. Frances was a communicant of St. Patrick's Church; a member of the Cambridge Senior Citizens and the Auxiliary of Capt. Maxson Post # 634 of the American Legion. She was a fabulous cook, an accomplished dressmaker and enjoyed crocheting. She is predeceased by her son-in-law, Al Hoogkamp and two brothers, Anthony and Mario Cristaldi. Survivors include three children, Theodore A. Valerio Jr. and wife Nancy of Flemington, N.J., Dennis J. Valerio and wife Gaye of Cambridge and Christine F. Hoogkamp of Mechanicville; a beloved sister, Josephine Gervasi of Cambridge; three grandchildren, Elizabeth Furka, Mathew and Gregory Valerio and many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. Friends and relatives are invited to call on Wednesday, August 27 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Ackley & Ross Funeral Home, 73 West Main Street, Cambridge. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, August 28 at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church, 17 South Park Street, Cambridge. Burial will follow at St. Patrick's Cemetery. The family requests memorial donations be made to Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, 2141 Rosecrans Avenue, Ste. 7000, El Segundo, CA 90245.
