Emily Wray Obituary

Wray, Emily Marie NEW YORK CITY, N.Y. Emily Marie Wray 92, the beloved mother of James W. Wray Sr. and his wife Julia of Fultonville N.Y., Susan Caruso Vaughan of NYC, and Daniel M. Wray and his wife Leslie Of East Berne, N.Y. and Sister of Margaret Schweigard and her husband Edward, passed into Jesus' arms on September 5, 2008. She is predeceased by her husband Detective Lieutenant Winfield J. Wray, squad commander NYPD and her brother James P. Woods. She had a fruitful life, leaving behind 20 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren. She is the past president of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Fighting 69th Regiment, N.Y.C. She was a communicant, lector, Eucharistic minister and assisted at the parish office of St. James Roman Catholic Church, N.Y.C. During 9/11 and the weeks following, she and two of her granddaughters, Sharon Rose and Theresa, ran a relief kitchen at St. James to feed the exhausted, policemen, fireman, state troopers and other rescue workers during the crisis. It is significant that she will be buried on September 11, 2008 after an 11 a.m. funeral Mass at St. James Church at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne N.Y. Viewing hours are 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 at Vanella Funeral Home, 29 Madison St. N.Y., N.Y. on Wednesday September 10, 2008.

I had the pleasure of spending a day with aunt Emily last year. It was my first time meeting her and I was so impressed by what a gracious host she was to me and Dona Grace. I know she will be missed greatly
