Kathryn Vavasour Obituary
Vavasour, Kathryn RYE, N.Y. Kathryn Shanley Vavasour (Kaye), of Rye, passed away September 22, 2008. Mrs. Vavasour was born on June 25, 1923 in Troy, N.Y., the daughter of W. Joseph Shanley and Rose B. Cavanaugh. She graduated from the College of New Rochelle in 1944, receiving her B.S. in business administration. She was a member of the Stuart Cameron McLeod Society of the National Assoc. of Accountants. She was a recipient of the Ursula Laurus and Angela Merici Awards at the College of New Rochelle and an active parishioner at Resurrection Church. She treasured her summers at Saratoga Lake spent with family. She married John E. Vavasour Sr. who predeceased her on September 28, 1985. She is survived by seven children, John E. (Kathryn) Vavasour Jr. of Albany, N.Y., Mary Kathrynn Vavasour of Beltsville, Md., Sheila V. (Jeff) U'Ren of Santa Monica, Calif., Rosemary E. (Paul) Richards of Scarsdale, N.Y., JoEllen Vavasour of Larchmont, N.Y., Robert S. Vavasour of San Francisco, Calif. and Peter D. (Bridget) Vavasour of Rye. She is the devoted grandmother of Andrea Vavasour, John Edward Drew U'Ren, Kathryn, Hayley and Mark Richards, Matthew, Liam, Caitlin and Luke Vavasour, Taylor, Zachary, Olivia, Colton and Carson Vavasour. She was the oldest of nine children. Surviving are Donald J. (Diane) Shanley of Saratoga Springs, Elizabeth Shanley Grennon of Williamstown, Mass., Joan Shanley Verdile of Troy, Kevin M. (Dinny) Shanley of Troy and Terence E. (Elizabeth) Shanley of Troy; also survived by a sister-in-law, Jean Palmetto Shanley of Saratoga Springs; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her infant brother, Robert Emmett Shanley; sister, Eileen Shanley McCabe; and brother-in-law, Thomas McCabe. She was also deceased by sisters and brothers-in-law, Catherine Shanley, William Grennon, Donald Vavasour, Richard and Virginia Burke. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at Resurrection Church.
