Alfred W. Chant

Chant, Alfred W. ROTTERDAM Alfred W. Chant, 94, of Rotterdam, died Monday, September 29, 2008 at his home. Born in Schenectady in 1914, he was the son of the late Charles and Elizabeth Chant. Alfred graduated from Mont Pleasant High School and the GE Apprentice Program. He was employed at the General Electric Company for 42 years where he worked as a turbine erector and machinist. Alfred was an avid sailor, a fisherman, a mentor, and a good friend to many people. He was a member of the Colonie Elks, the Schenectady Masonic Lodge No. 1174, and the Oriental Shriners No. 7 of Troy, N.Y. Survivors include his son, James (Kathleen) of Albany; a beloved granddaughter, Arden Yamashita of Yokohama, Japan; and two great-grandsons. He was predeceased by his wife Ann who died in 1997. In accordance with Alfred's wishes, his body was donated to the Anatomical Gift Program of the Albany Medical College.
