Mary Rudebush Obituary

Rudebush, Mary C. HOLY HILL, Fla. Mary C. Rudebush, 98, of Holly Hill, passed away on Sunday, October 5, 2008. Mary was born in Cohoes, N.Y. on July 7, 1910 to Charles and Katherine Carter. She was a retired dietician for the Cohoes city school system and moved to this area in 1990 from Cohoes. Mary attended the New York School of Art and Design. She was a member at Prince of Peace Catholic Church. She was also a member of the Ormond Beach Garden Club, the Abigail Bartholomew Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution for 65 years; past president of the Cohoes NY Red Cross Chapter and the Civil Defense of Cohoes during World War II, she was instrumental in the restoration of the Cohoes Music Hall; she swam Lake George, N.Y. in 1927 and was a member of the U.S.A. Olympic Swim Team in 1927; she was also a swim instructor for over 50 years. Mary was a direct descendent of Vincent Carter who arrived at the Plymouth Plantation in 1623, coming from England on the ship the "Goodspeed". Survivors include her son, Theodore Russell of Holly Hill, Fla. and two grandsons, Mathew and Ted Russell of Calif. Arrangements are under the careful direction of Baggett Summers Funeral Home, 736 S. Beach Street, Daytona Beach, FL 32114. To the family of Mary Rudebush.Mary was a member of our Ormond Beach Garden Club. I got to know Mary more when she was at Ormond-in- the Pines Nursing Home When I would vsit my husband (he passed away last year) I would always stop in to say hello to Mary.
She was a fine lady. My condolences go out to all her family.

Just read about Aunt Mary's passing. Hope you are doing ok. We have many fond memories of Aunt Mary and she was an important part of our childhood.

I enjoyed knowing and being able to visit with your mother so much. I lost contact after we moved to San Antonio. I always loved her stories over being on the Olympic Swim team.
