Emil Schmidt Obituary

Schmidt, Emil D. SCHAGHTICOKE Emil D. Schmidt, 66, of Molesky Road, died Thursday evening, October 23, 2008 at St. Mary's Hospital, Troy, after a long fought battle with lung disease. Born in Wareham, Mass., July 8, 1942, he is the son of Emil J. and Mary Molesky Schmidt of Melrose, and father of the late infant daughter Mary Margaret. A graduate of Lansingburgh High and Hudson Valley C.C., Emil was an instrumentation specialist with the Albany County Sewer District for 24 years, retiring in 1995. He had previously worked for Western Electric, Schaeffer Brewery, and Norton's. A true passion of his life was operating the Molesky family farm, where he spent lots of time growing up, and later in life. He was a member of St. John's Catholic Church in Schaghticoke. Survivors in addition to his parents include his children, Lisa and husband Tom Parry, A.J. and wife Kyle Schmidt, all of Schaghticoke, Margaret and husband Greg Branner of Mo., Amy and husband Shawn McLaughlin of Melrose; five grandchildren, Alexis and Renee Parry, Evelyn Branner, Josephine and Isabella Schmidt; a sister and nephew, Elizabeth (Sam) and Friar Nicholas Spano of Melrose and a brother, Dan (Cheryl Gowie) Schmidt of Buskirk; also two uncles, David Schmidt of Melrose and Peter Molesky of Rep. of Mexico; and several cousins. Special thanks from Emil's family to the Hoosic Valley Rescue Squad, Dr. Farooq, the staff of St. Mary's Hospital and Community Hospice of Rensselaer County, for all their help, care and compassion. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 10 a.m. at the Church of the Holy Trinity, Route 40, Schaghticoke, with Rev. George Flemming officiating and Friar Nicholas Spano assisting. Burial in St. John's Cemetery, Schaghticoke. Calling hours at the DeVito-Salvadore Funeral Home, 39 So. Main St., Mechanicville Sunday 3-6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, NY Chapter, 6 Greenwood Dr., East Greenbush, NY 12061, or Church of the Holy Trinity, in loving memory of Emil D. Schmidt.
