John Demarest Obituary

Demarest, John GREEN ISLAND John "Biz" Demarest, 74, of Green Island, died Tuesday, October 28, 2008 at his home with his loving family surrounding him. Born in Green Island, son of the late George and Edna Kehn Demarest, he is a lifelong resident of Green Island. "Biz" served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1954 to 1957 and, upon his return home, became a firefighter with the Green Island Fire Department for several years. He then went on to become an electrician, working for many years for the Green Island Electric Department, retiring as superintendent of operations in 1988. He also served as a town councilman from 1968 until 1978 when he became town supervisor and served in that capacity until 1988. Biz was a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd in Green Island and was also a member of the Legnard-Curtin Post American Legion in Green Island and the Watervliet Lodge of Elks. He is survived by his beloved and devoted wife, Martha Collins Demarest; his children, Frances (Ron) Guilbault of Green Island, Mark (Patti) Demarest of Waterford, Theresa Demarest of Gloversville and Lisa Demarest of Green Island; his grandchildren, Jaime and Ashley Guilbault, Laura Demarest Lee, Kayla and Melissa Demarest, and Jennifer and Nicholas Constable; his great-grandchildren, Reagan and Mackenzie; and his brother, George (Leona) Demarest of Green Island. Funeral services will be held at the McNulty Funeral Home, 147 Hudson Avenue, Green Island on Friday at 10:00 a.m. Interment, with military honors will follow in Memory's Garden, Colonie. Calling hours will be on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Because of the compassionate care given to "Biz" by Dr. Conjalka and his staff, the family has requested that donations be given to the Northeast Health Cancer Treatment Center, 2215 Burdett Avenue, Troy, NY 12180 in memory of John W. Demarest.
