David H. Espey

Espey, David H. COLONIE David H. Espey, 82, of Colonie, passed away peacefully at his residence on Wednesday, October 10, 2007. He was born in Colonie and was the son of the late Thomas and Florence Steele Espey. Dave was a decorated World War II Army veteran. He served in the Pacific Asiatic Theatre and the Philippine Liberation as a squad leader. A humble soldier, Dave was a Bronze Star and Purple Heart recipient. He was self-employed before joining Local #106 Operating Engineers as a heavy equipment operator, retiring after 30 years of service. Dave was a life member of both the West Albany Fire Department #1 and American Legion Post 1450. He was an avid bowler and enjoyed the beach, vacationing and visiting casinos. He was predeceased by his wife Olive; his son David; his longtime friend, Beverly Murray; and his daughter-in-law, Susan Espey. Dave is the devoted father of Lynn Hines and her husband Thomas. He is the brother of Florence Knighton, Laura Moore, Helen Cornell, Sara Tate, Donald Espey, and the late Thomas Espey, Ruth Metzger, Mary Hitchcock, and James Espey. He is the cherished grandfather of Al Wescott, Richard Espey (Erin Edwards), Kathleen (Scott) Hughes, Thomas, Greg and Kyle Hines and Amy Vincent. He is also survived by his companion, Joanne Frangella and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be Monday morning at 9:30 at NewComer-Cannon Family Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd. Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave). Calling hours will be Sunday from 3 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Memory's Garden.
