Newton Napolitane Obituary

Napolitane, Newton MECHANICVILLE Newton Napolitane, 91, of Philadelphia Ave., died Tuesday, October 16, 2007 at Stratton VA Medical Center, following surgical complica-tions. A native and lifelong resident of Mechanic-ville, born March 25, 1916, son of the late Andrew and Carmella Napoli-tane, Newt had worked for the former West Virginia Pulp and Paper Co. in Mechanicville, until the mill closed and he retired. During World War II, Newt served with the US Army's 101st Airborne Division, participated in the Battle of the Bulge, and received the Purple Heart for combat wounds. Newt enjoyed his flower and vegetable gardens and, in his earlier years, was reportedly a smooth dancer. Though never married, Newt was very close with his brothers, sisters and their children and grandchildren treated uncle Newt as a second father. He was a devoted member of Assumption-St. Paul Church in Mechanicville. Survivors include his brother, Nicholas Napolitane of Schenectady; his sister, Carmella Carella of Mechanicville; along with a number of nieces, nephews and their families. Newt was predeceased by his sister Pasqualine Napolitane and brother Michael Napolitane. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at the Assumption-St. Paul William Street Church. Burial with military honors in St. Paul's Cemetery. Calling hours at the DeVito-Salvadore Funeral Home, 39 So. Main St., Mechanicville Friday 4-7 p.m. Remembrances may be made to a charity of one's choice in loving memory of Newton Napolitane.
