Helen Swits

Swits, Helen (Helma) CLIFTON PARK Helen (Helma) Swits, 78, of Clifton Park, passed away on Wednesday, October 17, 2007 at Daughters of Sarah Nursing Home in Albany, surrounded by her loving family. Born and educated in Nurnburg, Germany, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Margarete Merkel Weiss. She moved to this area in 1954 with her husband, the late Harman D. Swits, III, whom she married on August 5, 1949. Mr. Switz passed away in 2004. Helma worked for many years as a waitress and hostess at The Carlton on Becker St., Verrutta's on State St., Hogan's Town House, and the Holiday Inn on Nott Terrace. Mrs. Swits enjoyed spending time with her extended family. Survivors include her son, Mike Swits of Fla.; her daughters, Kathy (Larry) DeMarco of Glenville, Heidi (John) Pleat of Loudonville, and Robin Swits of Fla.; her sister, Anneliese (Erich) Nickel of Nurnburg, Germany; her brother-in-law, Roswell T. (Elvira) Swits of Rotterdam; her grandchildren, Dan (Lori) DeMarco, Peter DeMarco, Kati Swits, Olivia Swits, Shane Quandt, and Krystle Swits; and her great-grandchildren, Anissa Karen Quandt, Alexander Quandt, Emma Swits, Angelo DeMarco and Anthony DeMarco; also several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her granddaughter, Karen DeMarco. Helma's family would like to extend special thanks to the Community Hospice team and everyone at Daughters of Sarah Nursing Home. Our deepest gratitude to all the staff at the blue unit for the wonderful and loving care given to our mother. Funeral services will be held Monday at 10:30 a.m. at The White Funeral Home, 264 N. Ballston Ave., (Rt. 50), Scotia. Interment will be in Vale Cemetery in Schenectady. The family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the funeral home and on Monday from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the Community Hospice of Albany, Nursing Home Program, 445 New Karner Road, Albany, NY 12205; or the Daughters of Sarah Nursing Home, 180 Washington Avenue Ext., Albany, NY 12203.
