Walter Everhardt Obituary

Everhardt, Walter E. SELKIRK Walter E. Everhardt, 85, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 16, 2007 at Oak Hill Hospital, Fla. surrounded by his loving family. A longtime resident of Selkirk, N.Y., Walter moved to Brooks-ville, Fla. after his retirement from NYS OGS. Walter was born in Horse-heads, N.Y. The oldest son of the late Claude and Editha (West) Everhardt, he was predeceased by his younger sister, Ethelda Struble. He was a U.S. Marine veteran who served during World War II in the Pacific Theater where he advanced to sergeant and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. A prior volunteer for the Selkirk Fire Department, he was a member of the VFW and Marine Corps League, as well as a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans. He enjoyed life to the fullest and especially loved gatherings with family and friends. Walter is the beloved husband of 36 years to Carolyn (Manderville). He is survived by his cherished children, Loretta (Bart) Tesiero of Amsterdam, Kevin (Linda) Cookingham of Selkirk, Walter (Anna) Everhardt of Amsterdam, Lorraine (Ken) Almindo of Selkirk and Kelly (Craig) DeBenedictus of Rhine-beck; 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and many treasured friends. Graveside services with military honors will be held on Wednesday, October 24 at 11:00 a.m. at Saratoga National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetic Association. www.diabetic.org
