Frances Slottka Obituary

Slottka, Frances A. CLIFTON PARK Mrs. Frances A. Vunk Slottka, 88, of Marina Drive, Clifton Park, N.Y. and formerly of Glen Avenue, Amsterdam, passed away Friday afternoon, October 19, 2007 at Van Rensselaer Manor Nursing Home, Troy after a long and courageous struggle with cancer. Born in Amsterdam, N.Y. on September 11, 1919, she was the daughter of the late James Austin and Rose E. Clark Vunk. Mrs. Slottka received her education at St. Mary's Institute in Amsterdam. She was employed in the clerical department for New York State Department of Taxation and Finance, retiring in 1970. Mrs. Slottka was a former communicant and parishioner of St. Mary's Church in Amsterdam. Her husband, Donald Slottka to whom she married on October 29, 1937, passed away on January 14, 1967. She is survived by one brother, Thomas Vunk (Marlene) of Voorheesville, N.Y. and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins. Mrs. Slottka was also predeceased by her sister, Rita Eckert in 2003. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday morning at 8:30 at the Riley Mortuary, Inc., 110 Division Street, Amsterdam, N.Y. followed at 9:15 by a Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated at St. Mary's Church, 156 East Main Street, Amsterdam. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Fort Johnson, N.Y. Calling hours are Monday from 4 to 7 at the mortuary. Memorial gifts in Mrs. Slott-ka's name may be made to the American Cancer Society, 260 Osborne Road, Loudonville, NY, 12211 or to Hospice of Rensselaer County, 295 Valley View Boulevard, Rensselaer, NY 12144.
