Eugene Leary Obituary

Leary, Eugene Arthur NISKAYUNA Eugene Arthur Leary, born 1931 in Cincinnati, passed away November 19, 2007 in Schenectady, N.Y. He is survived by his wife Franceline Cullen Leary; their six children, Eugene, James, Franceline Clark, Helen Shekerjian, Marjorie leary Hammer-man, and Patricia Kreitzer; ten grandchildren; his brother, Daniel and sister, Laura Schreiner; and many dear friends. Gene received an S.B. from MIT in 1954 and a Ph.D. from RPI in 1965. A scientist, engineer and inventor at research and manufacturing firms including GE Research Lab, KAPL and Pratt & Whitney. He taught at RPI and was a professor at Union College. Gene holds several classified patents. An avid player and teacher of bridge, he served on the board of the Capital District Bridge Association and the District 3 American Contract Bridge League, as well as the board of the Hamilton Hill Arts Association and was president of the capital area Microcomputer Society. Gene was a lifelong folk music enthusiast, a member of the Picking and Singing Gathering, and a perennial volunteer at Fox Hollow and Old Songs festivals. Calling hours Friday, November 23, 4 to 6 p.m. at Daly Funeral Home, 242 McClellan St., Schenectady, followed by a service at 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Diabetes Association.
