Wilson, C. Cynthia DELMAR Cynthia Wilson, resident of Delmar since 1958, died Saturday, November 10, 2007 at Barnwell Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Valatie, N.Y. Born in Chicago, Ill., she was educated at the University of Chicago kindergarten, graduated from Evanston Township High School, attended the American University, Washington, D.C. - Political Science, graduated from State University College at Albany, received A.B. summa cum laude; attended Columbia University, faculty of political and social sciences, N.Y.C. - candidate for Ph.D.; and Graduate School of Public Affairs, Albany (various courses and taught occasionally). For several years, she taught social studies and English at the Albany Academy for Girls. Later she became research assistant for the NY State Education Department, division of research in higher education, Sr. research assistant for the Moore Commission on State-Local Fiscal Relations, assistant director for research and liaison with local government officials at the NY State Division of Equalization and Assessment, head of the office of statistical coordination and liaison with federal agencies having major statistical programs for the NY State Division of the Budget, elected to executive board of Federal Statistics Users' conference, director of local government research, NY State Office for Local Government; capital finance analyst for the NY State Division of the Budget (Public Authorities Control Board, Dormitory Authority projects, 1980 Olympics and other assignments) and consultant to the Nelson A. Rockefeller Institute of Government for the NYS Statistical Year Book. After her retirement from state government, Cynthia became involved with the Retired Public Employees Association, and served as president from 1995-2003. She also served as member of the Governor's Task Force on Public Pension Systems; member of the Comptroller's Advisory Council for the Retirement Systems and a member of the Retiree Organization Council of the Civil Service Department; and member of the Governor's Advisory Committee to the New York State Office for the Aging. Some of her other organizational affiliations include Elected Fellow, State Academy of Public Administration; former officer and board member, American Association for Public Administration; past president, Albany Chapter of the American Statistical Association, and as a national member; appointed to task force to reorganize the National Center for Educational Statistics (NCES); past president, Zonta Club of Albany (an international service organization); past president of the Bethlehem Historical Association; former member of the executive board, Albany Regional Synod, Reformed Church in America; consistory member of the Delmar Reformed Church; member of the Torch Club of Albany; past president, Bethlehem Women's Republican Club; former member of the Bethlehem GOP Committee, and Bethlehem Bicentennial Committee; member of the Bethlehem Business Women's Club; former group leader and home coordinator for the Experiment in International Living; and member of the Saratoga Performing Arts Center. Cynthia always enjoyed reading, playing the piano, classical music, the theatre, traveling and at the age of 58, received her hot air balloon pilot license. She is survived by her son, Thomas Wilson and his wife Janice of Wayland, Mich.; daughter, Marcia Wilson of Delmar, N.Y.; grandchildren, Elizabeth Wilson of Chicago, Ill., Joel Peloquin, James and Jill Stoddard of Wayland, Dan and Judi DeVries of Hudsonville, Mich., Aaron and Jennifer Stroud of Wayland and Kyle Briggs of Holland, Mich.; 14 great-grand-children, three great-great-grandchildren; and goddaughter, Cindy Olson Hart of Marquette, Mich. Cynthia has donated her body to the Albany Medical College Anatomical Gift Program. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 8, 2007, at the First Reformed Church of Bethlehem, 38 Church Road, Selkirk, N.Y. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the "Dream in the Woods" fund at the church.
