William Sweet Obituary

Sweet, William Martin SCHODACK William Martin Sweet, 74, of Schodack, passed away on November 26, 2007 after a tough battle with cancer. Bill is survived and will be sorely missed by his wife of 25 years, Michele (Marks) Sweet and his canine buddy, Emma; also by his nine children, David Sweet of Granville, Steven Sweet of Watervliet, Paula (Doug) Garey of Fairfax, Vt., Christopher (Susan) Sweet of Stafford, Va., Catherine (Duane) Joyner of New Paltz, Mark (Dana) Sweet of Bolivia, N.C. Sandra (Devin) Perpetua of East Schodack, Michael (Mari-Lee)_ Sweet of Albany and Daniel (Heather) Sweet of Cohoes. He has 15 grandchildren and was predeceased by his first wife, Maureen Madigan and his grandson and namesake, Billy Joyner. His brother, Herman (Sonny) of Valatie survives as well as his sisters, Mildred (Robert) Spoor of Claverack, Betty Rector of Union, S.C. and Mary (Jack) Sowder of Boiling Springs, S.C. Born in Pittstown, Bill lived in Tomhannock for many years before moving to Troy, East Schodack and Nassau. He was an avid motorcyclist in his younger days, and enjoyed hunting, bowling and softball (and had many stories to tell, which his family-especially the grandkids-enjoyed hearing). After serving in the Army in Korea, Bill spent most of his career in the automotive field, retiring as general manager of Republic Automotive in Latham. He was proud to be a lifetime member of the East Schodack Volunteer Fire Co. Funeral will be Friday, November 30 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, 26 Church St. in Nassau. Calling hours are also at St. Mary's Church from 3 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, November 29. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bill's memory to St. Mary's Church or the Mohawk & Hudson River Humane Society, 3 Oakland Ave., Menands, NY 12204 would be appreciated.

Be Still

Be still like the grass on a melancholy summer day
Be still like desert shrub.

Be calm and you will hear your loved one speak, in the stillness, in the calm, their love resounds.

If you are still this promise I make, you will hear the voice of your loved one helping you along your way.

I knew Bill from calling on him when he was the General Manager at Republic Automotive. He was always a gentleman and professional person to work with (as long as you had an appointment). I learned a lot from Bill. He has been missed in this industry.

Bill has always been a friend to us at the East Schodack Fire Company, From the days he pitched for our Softball Team and would open up his store at the wee hours to feed hungry firefighters after a long night at a fire scene. Bill was always there to lend a hand at the family Picnics and supply the prizes for the Members. Bill was a true gentleman and giving person. He will be missed by his Brothers and Sisters at the East Schodack Fire Company.
