Joseph Tanski Obituary

Tanski, Joseph S. ALBANY Joseph S. Tanski, age 89, entered into eternal life Friday, November 30, 2007, joining his beloved wife of 61 years, Helen. They joined hearts in marriage on May 18, 1946. Joseph (Josef) was the youngest son of John W. and Sophia Gostkowski Tanski, who immigrated to the U.S. from Poland. Joseph is predeceased by his beloved siblings, Frank (Mieczy-slaw), Louis (Lucyan), Michael (Maryan), Mary (Maryana Anas-tasia) and Jane (Michalina Jennie) as well as their spouses. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran serving in the India Burma Theater. He was awarded the Atlantic Pacific Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. He worked as a baker at the Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company and, prior to his retirement, was a supervisor at Sterling-Winthrop Drug Company. Joseph was a life member of the Joseph E. Zaloga Post #1520, the Polish American Citizens Club and the Colonie Lodge of Elks #2192. Joseph was also a life member of the former Church of St. Casimir. Joseph is survived by his beloved brother-in-law, Theodore Michalski. Uncle Joe will be tremendously missed by a whole host of nieces and nephews, including great and great-great, as well as friends who are like family. He will be especially missed by his nephew Frank and his wife Yulan, and nieces Jean and her husband Tom and Donna and her husband Michael. Joseph is also survived by his cat Kayla. As he is lovingly known to all those whose lives he touched as "Uncle Joe," he truly believed in those who he loved...his family and dear friends. Especially in life, and even in his death, he taught us all how to love a little more, be patient a little more and treat others with the respect and dignity that all truly deserve. "Stolot" Uncle Joe, your memory lives on in all of our hearts. Joseph's family would like to express a special thank you to all the staff of Our Lady of Mercy Life Center who lovingly cared for him during his illness. Funeral services will be held in the Lasak & Gigliotti Funeral Home, 8 Dudley Heights (Northern Blvd.), Albany Tuesday morning at 8:15 and 9 o'clock at the Church of the Sacred Heart. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend and may also call at the funeral home Monday 4 to 7 p.m. Interment will be in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery, Colonie. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may send a remembrance in Joseph's name to Our Lady of Mercy Life Center, 2 Mercycare Lane, Guilderland, NY 12084.

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man."

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.
