Dear Family and Friends,
I was overcome with emotion and unable to speak at the memorial service for Aunt Carol when the funeral director asked for someone to share something about her life, but that doesn't mean I don't have many fond memories to share now! My family always celebrated Easter and Christmas Eve. at Aunt Carol's house until her stroke. Christmas Eve always consisted of dinner and then a lowering of the lights and the tuning of the radio to the Santa tracking station while we played holiday themed games. And then -finally,the jingling of the awaited sleigh bells always came followed by a Ho, Ho, Ho and a visit from Santa who had just filled Aunt Carol's porch with gifts. That night of anticipation and excitment has followed me for over thirty years and now into my own children's lives. We still carry on that tradition now but have missed Aunt Carol and her home over the past few years. She has a very special place to watch us from this year and we will definitely be thinking about her!
Another great memory is how she turned her Christmas tree into the Easter Egg tree. Never had I heard of one of this before, but soon found myself looking forward to seeing it each spring.
The other big part Aunt Carol played in our lives was camping. Whether in a tent or her black van at Sharp's Bridge, at Whitey's camp with all the mousetraps going off in the middle of the night, or in the cabin at Road's End and the infamous Champ monster(played by Uncle Hersh), Aunt Carol was always there to help my mom with four kids and make sure everyone had a good time. She'd listen to Johny Cash or Kenny Rogers and relax with her Utica Club. I'm sure everyone in my family remembers the lime green sweatsuit, her fingernails always being painted to match her outfit of the day and last but not least -the bucket of dishwater she accidentally ended up wearing in the teased hair when she tried to dump it down the hill! (I don't care who you are-that's funny!)Think about it-would we really have been so eager to go into the woods way WAY up North with outhouses, rain/mud, bugs, bears, no tv, etc. had it not been for the bonding we knew we would have over "vacation" with Aunt Carol, Uncle Hersh and Scott?
Lynn and Terri-do you remember being famous in the newspaper from modelling clothes at Veners?
Tommy-do you remember swimming in her pool, catching frogs by her tree out back and drawing in the air with sparklers on the fourth of July?!
Alissa and Justin remember Aunt Carol most for going to Mamie Jean's house and playing blocks with them. She loved kids and how they kept her young at heart. We will never know just why she loved the smell of babies first walking shoe so much!
Aunt Carol will be missed dearly by all that knew and loved her, but like the Afterglow poem at her memorial said-remember her with happy thoughts and smiles and laughing times. I know I certainly will:)
All my love,Christine

My sincere condolences to Carol's family. Carol was not only a fine employee at my pharmacy for a very long time and a definite asset, but also a good friend. She was a very nice lady and a good mother to her children. She will be remembered for a very long time.
