Robyn Dare Obituary

Dare, Robyn L. NISKAYUNA Robyn L. Dare, age 92, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 4, 2007, at the Ellis Center for Long Term Care. Robyn was born April 17, 1915, in Chicago, Ill. He graduated from Morgan Park Military Academy in Chicago, Grinnell College, Iowa and University of Buffalo Law School. He entered military service in World War II upon passing the NYS Bar. He served in several capacities, primary of which was as an intelligence officer in the 7th Infantry Division during the battle of Okinawa and the liberation of Korea. He and Japanese-speaking American soldiers from Hawaii saved many civilian and Japanese soldiers' lives by preventing suicide bombings. After World War II, Robyn practiced law in Buffalo, N.Y. for many years. He left Buffalo to become director of the New York County Bar Association in NYC in 1958. In 1961, he joined the U.S. Treasury Department as an estate and gift tax examiner, retiring as senior examiner in Albany, N.Y. in 1977. Robyn's many interests included teaching law to adult students at University of Buffalo. He loved all kinds of music and always had jazz, swing or classical playing. A native Chicogoan, he was a marvelous dancer. Sports he pursued were trap shooting, bird hunting, all kinds of fishing, especially fly fishing and, in his later years, golf. He enjoyed many retirement years in Northwest Fla. on the Emerald Coast. Robyn researched his family history dating back to the 1600s in America. He wrote a history for family members and was working on his autobiography at the time of his death. Memberships include the Schenectady Bar Assoc., Grinnell and University of Buffalo Alumnae's Associations, the 7th Infantry Division, the Dare Family Association, Luther Family Association, Morgan Park Neighborhood Historical Association, Chicago. Robyn is survived by Shirley, his wife of 47 years; sons, Ian D. Dare (Nancy), James E. Dare (Marilyn) and daughter, Melinda Hill (William); beloved grandchildren are Christopher, Ryan, Devon and David; two nieces and many grandnieces and grandnephews. Arrangements for cremation are being handled by Jones Funeral Home. At his request, there will be no visiting hours. Interment will be private for family in the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice.

Dear Mindy, Ian & Jed,
I was wondering & was trying to get ahold of Mindy to wish her a Merry Christmas & had left a message on her machine. I had not recieved her Christmas Card this year & wondered why. I just decided to try to see if there was a reason & knowing that Robyn was of advanced age thought that I would just type in his name. I found out this way.
I am very very sorry to hear the news. The Dare's & the Stewart's go way back. We all grew up together & went to school together @ Park.
Our Prayers are with you at this time.
With Much Love of all the Dare Family, Laurie Stewart - Tokarsky & her family Paul & Alex

Jed and Marilyn Your father had quite a life. You should be proud. We always liked him when we met him so long ago. We are thinking of you and sorry we cannot drink a toast with you in his memory. We will do it when we see you in February. Please give our condolences to Ian and Melinda too.
