Walter K Wilson III personified the best qualities of a soldier, leader, engineer, and, most of all, what it is to be an honorable man. I offer my prayers for Colonel Walter K Wilson III and his family
I knew him as Major Wilson, the S-3 (Operations) officer of the 554th Engineer Battalion in Vietnam; he and I arrived at Cu Chi days apart in February 1969. It was my privilege to serve directly under him as one of his assistant operations officers during the last 8 months of my tour. This was a man who “had his act together “and cared deeply about the troops. He was a terrific role model and mentor for the battalion’s younger officers like me. One couldn’t ask for a better boss. As a young lieutenant I learned a great deal from Walter K Wilson. I cherish the experience of working with him in the service of our country.
“Straight Ahead” was the 554th’s unofficial motto. Walter K Wilson lived in that spirit when I knew him, and may it continue as he enters the next phase of his eternal journey. May God bless the soul of Walter K Wilson III. And may God bless and give comfort to his family.

I have never met Mr. Wilson but having known one of his sons (Walt) for many years …I can only say he must have been a wonderful father and husband because Walt is a wonderful family man… I am sure his father was and is still proud of his son. Your family is in our thoughts, hearts and prayers during this sorrowful time.

We are so sorry for your great loss. Walter was always so thoughtful and generous with his children and their families. We recall one year he put together a collage of pictures of our son-in-law Walter IV as he was growing up and gave it to him for Christmas. It showed what a loving and thoughtful father he was.
You are all in our thoughts and prayers.

I was never fortunate enough to meet Walt in person but I had the pleasure of working with him via phone/email. He was a wonderful man and he had a great impact on me. I enjoyed talking with him about his large family and hearing about the “old days”. I am very saddened by his passing and regret that I never got to meet him. Walt has touched so many lives and his memory will live forever in our hearts.

I never met Walt, but worked with him for years through emails and exchanging paper work. He was wonderful and enjoyable to work with. He brought so many smiles to my day with his sense of humor and honesty. He is one of the good ones, now gone, but never forgotten. I will miss him.

Walt will be remembered as a kind and caring man, a wonderful husband and father and a genuine American hero. His distinguished career of service to our country is a fine example for all the emulate. His strong and quiet demeanor and his willingness to help everyone are a treasured memory to those who knew him. His wonderful wife and children will remain in our prayers.
