Brenda, our Brenda

She was stylish, sweet, a sight to see,
A beautiful spirit, full of life, wild and free.

Her heart was warm, wrapped in love for the Lord,
Even the little ones felt the joy she poured.

A good wife, steadfast, through thick and thin,
When we heard she was gone, it felt like a sin.

It´s not just the things you did in this place,
But the soul you carried, that radiant grace.

In our sorrow, we rise, giving thanks from below,
For you shine up there now, in that heavenly glow.

dear mom although your not my real mother...all thru high school your house was like my second home... i felt a lot love from you and your family even when i was in my worst of times.... it was hard being a teenager... if i was going through somthing at home i would always end up at the Collington home feeling as if i was one of the family... it saddens me deeply to find out two years later of the lost which happens to fall on my birthday...i was so emotional to have recently made cantact with Caprice...but qiuckly grievend by the startling news i was only left to feel like i should have been there for her... but as you where a strong entity im sure your greatness was passed along to her...in closing although me and your greatest gift to this world never made a future of our relationship i thank God for giving me the oppotunity to cross your path

Thank you Monica Lewis of the EPA Blacks in Government (BIG) Family for maintaining the Guest Book for our Sista Brenda Collington. Thank you to the Collington family for having shared Brenda with our EPA Family.

Brenda Collington was a fixture at the EPA that could not be missed. Brenda was a mentor to many who looked up to her for guidance. If you failed to advance under Brenda Collington it was because you had no desire to advance. Brenda was a very patient but assertive Sista who worked hard and earned every award she received. Now, her highest award has been granted and deservingly so. Brenda will watch-over us from her new worksite in Heaven, she ain't finished yet. There are Angels in Heaven that must earn their wings. Brenda already had her wings during her Earthly existence. That's why God let us have her for the period that He did. May the Collington Family, Brenda's large circle of friends, the EPA Family, and Brenda's BIG Family be BLESSED and HONORED to know that we have a true ANGEL IN HEAVEN watching over us and that we can only prosper from having lived and worked with such a kind and gentle individual... always.

Brenda was one of my oldest and dearest friends. The last time we were together with other close friends, we had a wonderful time. I knew in my heart that something was wrong at that time and when I was unable to contact her for months, I was certain that whenever the news was revealed, my friend and sister's physical body had left this world. Brenda will always be a part of my life and her spirit lives on. I will love her always.

Having just lost my son at the age of 22 years old on November 20, 2006, I can imagine what/how you are feeling right now. Be sure that God is/will comfort each and everyone of you during this time of bereavement. God has never failed you and he never will. He will allow you to talk about her, remember her, and cry while he wipes away your tears. He is strengthening me just like I know he is strengthing you, too. Continue to depend on God for everything for he will not fail you. At times the pain of losing her will come and go. Sometimes it will come on you so strong. Just cry it out, talk it out, tell God all about it. How you feel and why you feel the way you do. He understands every emotion you are feeling right now. Just remember she is absent from the body but present with the Lord. Just remember she is looking down on you. She can see and hear you. She knows how much she will be missed. But just remember you will see her again when Jesus returns for all of us. Continue to talk about her, remember the good times, remember her words and what she use to do and talk about them. I find this to be comforting to me. Just remember, she is not gone for her spirit lives on. Just remember the good times and talk about them always. Cry alittle and talk to the Lord alot about everything over and over again. He doesn't mind. He wants you too. He's waiting for you. Sometimes I find praying for others who have loss love ones helps me get through the grieving process. However, you will find that God is closer than a whisper and he is always listening out for your voice. He is waiting for you to talk with him. He wants to comfort you. You will see that God will/is comforting you right now during this time of sorrow. Your family is always in my prayers.

Dear Collington Family,
I was an intern in the office where Brenda worked at the EPA, and although I was only there for the summer, she made a strong and vibrantly postive impression on me. She was tremendously giving and helpful, even to lowly interns.... Her joy for life and compassion for others came across immediately. I have no words that may ease your pain, but I wanted you to know she touched everyone she met, and you all carry that with you even though she is no longer with us...

Brenda and I had two things in common: We both worked in EPA's policy office for many years, and we both shared the same first name. Sometimes she would get calls for me and sometimes it was the other way around. I'll always remember her ready smile and zest for life. My sympathy to her family.

It was a privilege and joy to work with Brenda. She was full of life and joy and shared that with everyone around her. I was always impressed by her spirit--that she could achieve anything she put her mind to. She will continue to inspire me to love and cherish those around me and to have an unbounded passion for life. She will be missed, but her spirit will always be present.

Brenda and I have worked together at EPA, Office of the Administrator in many areas. Most recently, Brenda and I had worked with budget excursion for her office. I could always count on Brenda to call me 10 minutes before I was to leave for the day. It was all right because I knew Brenda to be a conscious worker who did not want to leave any tasks undone, no matter what time it was.
I will miss her calls, our talks and I will miss Brenda dearly! May you find comfort in knowing that your love one was admired, respected and loved!

To the Family with the Deepest Sympathy:

Brenda was my friend and I will truly miss: her beautiful smile, positive attitude, and her heart of gold. I will always cherish the
the memories that we shared throughout the years. I met Brenda at her first BIG Conference in Atlanta Georgia about fifteen years ago. She was looking for someone to network with, but I was just looking for some good food. We decided to have dinner together, and had a wonderful evening. Well, the rest is history, throughout the years we looked forward to seeing each other every year at the conference. Whenever we traveled to Washington, Brenda was always right there to welcome and escort us anywhere we wanted to go. I can remember when she invited us to her home and prepared the best seafood dinner that I have ever eaten, and the wonderful hospitality from the family was very much appreciated. May God Bless the Collington Family in Your time of Sorrow.

I will always remember Brenda because she was most helpful in getting me in touch with her husbands doctor who performed surgery on his tumor. My son Terrell also had brain tumors. I will always remember her willingness to help me in my stressful time. (Lula Thompson)

Brenda was a joy! Her attendance in the class I taught Nov 29-Dec 1 was a very short time to engage with her, but I shall never forget her sparkle, enthusiasm and genuine positive attitude she brought to everyone in the session.
May God bless her for all the wonderful gifts she brought to others!

To Brenda's family, it is comforting to know that these are the times that the Lord carries you and makes the hurt you're feeling a little softer. I pray for God's Peace, Comfort and Blessings for your family in Jesus Name.

To The Collington Family,

My prayers and sympathy are with all of you. May God continue to give you strenght during your mourning process of the loss of Brenda. I've known Brenda for over 15 years. I've loss a true friend. I'm truly blessed to have crossed paths with Brenda. Her spirits were Godly filled. She was a loving person to everyone that she came in contact with. I thank God for his goodness and mercy for blessing me to have had Brenda as a friend. I met Brenda at a conference in Washington, D.C. We had always been long distance friends throughout the years. Whenever I think of Brenda, I can only remember her smile, the laughs we had together, and the compassion that God instilled in her to share with others. Brenda's love for life and love for others will always live within us and be remembered.

Brenda worked down the hall in a transportation branch within U.S. Department of Agriculture. After she joined EPA for better opportunities, Brenda made a point to come back and thank her old boss, perhaps at his retirement party. That small act of kindness symbolized Brenda, and the loss we feel in our homes and places of work and worship.

Diane Bazzle

January 25, 2007

My thoughts and prayers are with Brenda's family during this time. I worked closely with Brenda in her role as the Office of the Administrator's representative on the Administrative Council for Excellence (ACE). Brenda always saw the possibilities in life and led by example. She was a "Shining Star" and cast her glow upon everyone whose path she crossed. She was always willing to give of herself to help others. I admired her drive to be the best that she could be--getting her Master's Degree while working fulltime and pursuing her dream of a doctor's degree! What an inspiration to us all! I will never forget the warmth of her radiant smile as she brightened everyone's day with her presence. She will be dearly missed but, as I look up into the starlit sky, I know Brenda is still smiling upon us and encouraging us onward.

Brenda and I go a long ways back. We were friends for over 35 years. We graduated from Cardozo Senior High School together, worked at USDA together, and later worked at EPA together. She was truely an up-lifting person with always some positive advice and a smile.

May your hearts soon be filled with Brenda's beautiful memories of joyful times together.

Brenda carried ACE (Administrative Council for Excellence) to the forefront in the Administrators Office of EPA. She showed a tireless devotion to our cause. To Brenda's Family,
At times like these we must remember to look to the hills from whence cometh our help; Our help cometh from the Lord. Keep the Faith; keep holding onto God's Unchanging Hand; keep standing on the WORD and keep your eyes fastened on JESUS; if you do this the whirlwind that you are in right now won't be able to sweep you off of your feet, the troubles you are experiencing can't overtake you, and the wave that you are on can't swallow you.

Brenda was an incredible person. She had a unique way of making those she touched feel special. I will miss her kind words and warm smile. Brenda was strong, hardworking, and one of the kindest people I have had the pleasure to know. Brenda was always willing to help anyone with anything. I was lucky to have worked beside her and honored to be her friend.

I met Brenda two weeks after I started at the EPA. She approached me about the ACE program. I always teased her by saying she "threatened" me into joining, but the truth was, I really enjoyed it and learned a lot from her and the program. I eventually became a co-chair, due in large part to her guidance. She will be missed.

We knew Brenda well as she constantly gave fully of herself to EPA's Office of the Administrator's Quality of Work Life Program...as a mentor, guide, and highly approachable role model for others. Brenda was so inquisitive, sensitive, warm, and eternally optimistic. Her mind, heart, and spirit seemed to naturally transcend any limitation or obstacle in her way. She was and always will be a "Shining Star" for many...and will live daily in our hearts forever! Brenda will continue to radiate 'within and without' as she touched us all quite dearly and deeply.

Brenda and I worked together at EPA on budget issues. She was a very bright and ethusiastic individual who could always be relied upon. As a relatively new person to this part of EPA, I was comforted to know that I could always turn to Brenda who graciously answered my (sometimes silly) questions and/or helped me out with the quandary of the day. I am really going miss her and her bright smile.

Brenda was one of those people I would see occasionally whether it was at meetings or just in passing at work. I only knew Brenda for a short time. We met during a recent three day facillitation training at EPA. But in that short time she really touched my heart and revealed herself to be a beautiful, warm, loving, and wonderful person - a blessing to this world. My heart goes out to her family and close friends. She will be missed by so many people - including me.
