Violet A. Nelson

Violet Amanda Nelson, 83, of Bland died Sunday, Oct. 19, 2008. Funeral service was held Tuesday, Oct. 21, at 7 p.m. at the Highland Bland Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Jim Conley officiating. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, Oct. 22, at 11 a.m. at the Muncy Cemetery. She was born April 3, 1925, in Wythe County, daughter of the late Levi Clinton and Minerva Jane Peak Baxley. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Nelson Sr.; son, Cecil Nelson Jr.; grandson, Cecil Nelson III; great-granddaughter, Montana Faith Mabry; two brothers; and three sisters. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Gene and Kathy Nelson of Bland; brother, Cecil Baxley of Bunker Hill, W.Va.; four grandchildren, Lori Mabry, Diane Morehead, Sandi Lagan and April Nelson; six great-grandchildren; special niece, Doris Tibbs of Bland; several nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends. Highland Bland Funeral Chapel in Bland is in charge of the arrangements.
