Alvin L. Henderson

Alvin Lee Henderson, 72, of Moneta, formerly of Wytheville, died Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2008. Funeral service was held Friday, Nov. 7, at 2 p.m. at the Grubb Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Wayne Monroe officiating. Interment was in the Mt. Mitchell United Methodist Church Cemetery. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Dean Henderson and Beulah Umberger Henderson; sister, Frances Jean Hurst; and brother, James Russell Henderson. Survivors include his wife, Joyce Henderson of Moneta; three children and their spouses, Debra and John Kirby of Bland, Tina and Ernest Hyman of Salem and Connie Henderson of Salem; two brothers, Joseph Edmond Henderson of Little Creek and Charles Douglas Henderson of Wytheville; two sisters, Norma Jean Hurst and Doris H. Umberger, both of Wytheville; four grandchildren, Cody Kirby, Morgan Hyman, Jimmy Elkins and Shannon Henderson; four stepchildren, Joel Carter, Jeffery Lynn Dodd, Donna Dodd Carter and Donny Scruggs; and several nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Mt. Mitchell United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Doris Umberger, 6121 Stony Fork Rd., Wytheville, VA 24382. Grubb Funeral Home in Wytheville was in charge of the arrangements.
