Willard Jay Short

Willard Jay Short, age 61 of Raven, Va., passed away Thurs., Nov. 6, 2008 in a Richlands, Va., hospital. Born May 20, 1947 in Richlands, Va., he was the son of Barbara Stilwell Short of Raven, Va., and the late Hubert Oliver Short. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by one sister, Rosie Short. In addition to his mother, he is survived by four sisters, Norma Keen and husband, John, of Pounding Mill, Sue Newberry and husband, Rondal, of Doran, Patsy McGlothlin and husband, Darnell, of Honaker and Leisa Shelor and husband, Dave, of Blacksburg; four brothers, James Short and wife, Sylvia, Darrell Short and wife, Judy, Donald Short and wife, Marcella, and Ricky Short and wife, Karen, all of Raven; several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. Funeral services were conducted at 2:00 p.m. Sat., Nov. 8, 2008 at Singleton Funeral Service Chapel at Cedar Bluff, Va., with Rev. Dennis White officiating. Entombment followed in the Greenhills Memory Gardens Mausoleum at Claypool Hill, Va. Family and friends served as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were nephews and great-nephews. The family received friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Fri., Nov. 7, at Singleton Funeral Service at Cedar Bluff, Va.
