James C. Buchanan

James Creston Buchanan, 80, of Winston-Salem, N.C., died Friday, Nov. 14, 2008. Funeral service was held Monday, Nov. 17, at 2 p.m. at the Barnett Funeral Chapel. Interment was in Mt. Mitchell United Methodist Church Cemetery. He was born June 7, 1928, in Spruce Pine, N.C., son of the late Bryson and Edith Woody Buchanan. He was a member of Griffith Baptist Church and was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Violet Buchanan and Lucy Silvers; and two brothers, Gentry Buchanan and J.B. Buchanan. Survivors include his wife, Edell Fortune Buchanan of the home; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Randolph R. Buchanan of Winston-Salem, N.C., Tony and Tammy Buchanan of Mocksville, N.C.; five grandchildren and spouses, Sherry and Keith Underwood, Kristie and Andrew Blankenship, Jessica Buchanan, William Buchanan and Benjamin Buchanan; five great-grandchildren, Heather Blankenship, Scotty Blankenship, Brittney Blankenship, Brandy Underwood and Chad Underwood; three sisters, Marie Young of Spruce Pine, N.C., Margaret Davis of Marion, N.C., and Rometta Dean of Asheville, N.C.; a brother, Martin Buchanan of Delina, Texas; and several nieces and nephews. Barnett Funeral Home in Wytheville was in charge of the arrangements.
