Dolphis Wongee "Catfish" McGlothlin

Dolphis "Catfish" Wongee McGlothlin, age 73, of Raven, Va., passed away Thurs., Nov. 13, 2008 in a Richlands, Va., hospital following a lengthy illness. He was born in Tazewell County and was the son of the late James Frederick and Dolly Lucinda Wade McGlothlin. He had made his home in the Raven, Va., area all of his life and was a retired miner from Island Creek Coal Corporation. He was a member of UMWA Local in Oakwood, Va. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ada Virginia Powers McGlothlin. Survivors are: four daughters: Effie Absher and husband, Coy, of Raven, Va., Donna Gayle Gilbert of Wise, Va., Diana Lynn Boyd and husband, Jim, of Sevierville, Tenn., Debbie Stentiford and husband, Robert, of Ocala, Fla.; two sisters: Myrtle Ball of Raven, Va., Shirley Mallory and husband, Bill, of Carrollton, Ga.; one brother: Clarence McGlothlin and wife, Geraldine, of Raven, Va.; special care takers: Gladys Shelton and Peck Reynolds; eight grandchildren; and four great grandchildren also survive. Funeral services for Dolphis Wongee McGlothlin were conducted Sun., Nov. 16, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, Va., with the Rev. Buddy Herald and Rev. Dannie Short officiating. Interment followed at the Ball Family Cemetery on Road Ridge near Raven, Va. Grandchildren served as pallbearers. Friends called after 6:00 p.m. Sat. evening, Nov. 15, at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, Va.
