Vivian L. Hampton

Vivian Lorena Hampton, 83, of Rural Retreat died Sunday, Nov. 23, 2008, at her home following an extended illness. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, Nov. 26, at 11 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church with Pastor Jonathan Hamman officiating. Inurnment will be later at Mountain View Cemetery. She was born July 21, 1925, in Wythe County, daughter of the late French Soloman "Spain" Litz and the late Ruth Myers Litz. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Scott Alexander Hampton; and a brother, Fred James Litz. Survivors include three sons, Michael Allan Hampton of Atlanta, Ga., Stephen Bruce Hampton and wife Lavada of Rural Retreat, and Brian Edwin Hampton of Draper; three grandchildren, Allan Hampton, Stacey Hampton and Briar Hampton; a great-granddaughter, Alexandria Hampton; two sisters, Constance L. Wilkie of Morganton, N.C., and Joanne G. Harris of Martinsville; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Wednesday, Nov. 26, from 10 to 11 a.m. (service time) at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations may be made to the Grace Lutheran Church Roofing Fund, P.O. Box 478, Rural Retreat, VA 24368. Lindsey Funeral Home in Rural Retreat is in charge of the arrangements.
