Nanola Martha "Nance" Hess

Miss Nanola Martha "Nance" Hess, age 93, of the Big Creek section of Richlands, Va., died early Wed., Nov. 19, 2008 at a Richlands, Va. hospital. She was born in Alferdon, Va., and was a daughter of the late James A. and Nora Horton Hess. She was a lifelong resident of the Richlands area, was a retired dietician having worked at the Mattie Williams Hospital for 40 years. She was a member of the Richlands Presbyterian Church having attended Westfork Presbyterian Chapel. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, James Arthur Hess, Jr., John Marvin Hess, and Howard R. Hess; special nephew, Bill Hess, Jr.; special cousins, Audrey Lester, Lillian Wingo, and John Martin; also, two brothers-in-law, Jim Hurt and Garrett Stevens. Survivors are: three sisters: Jane Hurt of Richlands, Va., Helen Hess of Richlands, Va., and Betty Stevens of Richlands, Va.; three brothers: George P. Hess of Richlands, Va., Bill Hess and wife, Clara, of Richlands, Va., and Harry Hess, and wife, Peggy, of Richlands, Va.; sister-in-law, Katherine Hess of Richlands, Va.; nieces and nephews: Judith Jones, Linda McGlothlin, Dr. Nora Hurt, Martha Jessee, Jim Hurt, II, and John Hess; great nieces and nephews: Britt Ravenberg, Shelley Hayes, Heather McGlothlin, Ingrid Baker, Katherine Jones, Lauren Hurt, Marcus Jessee, Brady Hess, Matthew Hurt, Bob Holland, and Cole Carini; special cousins: Harry Eugene Hess, Gene Horton, and Margaret Elswick. Funeral services for Miss Nanola Martha "Nance" Hess were conducted Fri., Nov. 21, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands with Rev. Dennis Hoffman officiating. Entombment followed in Greenhills Memory Gardens Mausoleum at Claypool Hill, Va. Pallbearers were: Jim Hurt, II, John Hess, Bob Lester, Wayne Lester, Michael Hickman, Raymond Johnson, Jeff Jessee, Marcus Jessee, Brady Hess, Michael Stump, Cecil Ray Stump, and Gene Horton.
