Linda Joann Smith Akers, 58, of Max Meadows died Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2008. Funeral service was held Friday, Nov. 28, at 7 p.m. at the Reese Funeral Chapel. A graveside service will be held Saturday, Nov. 29, at noon at the Wilson Cemetery in Carroll County. She was born June 4, 1950, in Smyth County. She was preceded in death by her father, Elmer Smith; daughter, Patricia K. Smith; and brother, Roger Smith. Survivors include her husband, Joseph Carl Akers of the home; two daughters, Stacy Joann Harden of Hillsville and Cynthia Lynn Grubb of Wytheville; four grandchildren, Mary Joann Jackson, Ariel Elaine Hindre, Kayla Lynn Grubb and Maria Rain Grubb; her mother, Clara Mae Parks Smith of Groseclose; three sisters, Janice Smith of Georgia, Shirley Widener and Becky Lane, both of Groseclose; three brothers, Alfred Smith of Georgia, Bobby Smith and David Smith, both of Max Meadows; and several nieces and nephews. Reese Funeral Home in Austinville is in charge of the arrangements.
